Let´s build a bunker

As I promised..... Here is a short tutorial about my vignette "Abandoned German bunker".

I find a lot of inspiration on this website every day. So now it´s time to pay for it. Enjoy reading. Any comments are welcome. Sorry for my English . Maybe any native English could make some corrections in the text.

Hello Francisco,

yes it´s me. The internet world is so small Nice to meet you here.
I know about Samek´s models. Models of Czech bunkers are accurate and nice, but their try to make German bunkers is totally out of reality . Their models look only to be inspired with German Atlantikwall fortifications. Probably they don´t waste a time with studying historical drawings. I don´t know why, because there are thousands of them in books, magazines and on various websites.

The ilustrations on your PDFs look like they were made using Google Sketchup. I've been learning how to work with it and it has been really cool. One of the thing's I've created was actually a bunker!

This one can still be found in Heuqueville, France. I intent to build it in 1/144 and I plan to include the cliff, the beach and a bit of the sea - the overall size will be close to 70cm. Your balsa-wood technique might just have been what I needed to learn before I could go on with this project

To Francisco:

Yes, I used Google sketchup. It´s very easy to learn. Quite limited, but good software.

Great plan to build that bunker. It´s something different from little vignettes you usually do. Isn´t it? I´m glad, that my tutorial helped you.
I´m not sure, how will my technigue of modelling concrete surface work on rounded corners of the bunker (see enclosed picture). Maybe if you heat the resin plate (hairdryer or hot water) and bend it, it will work. If I do it. I would make a paper template and redraw it on the back side of resin plate.
Do you have a scale drawing of the bunker? If yes, could you send it to me? It seems very interesting.

My bookmark list is full of surprises, even to me !
A couple of years ago, I built a bunker, too. But when I took steps to research that matter, I soon found out about the standardized German bunker installation. That somehow drew my attention away from my project. Still though, the informations might be of use to others ?

Do you have a scale drawing of the bunker? If yes, could you send it to me? It seems very interesting.

This bunker is of "special construction" type, which means it's a one of a kind and I couldn't find any plans.

I drew it on sketchup using the photographs as a guide, then I resized it based on one of those photos that showed the inside of the bunker and the distance between the floor and the "look-out" (the window section).

Now I'll have to unfold the 3D model, then I'll have a set of plans..
