Painting faces

Here's a tutorial of how I paint faces on my figures. For this tutorial I used GW paints, and a figure with a black undercoat.

Step 1:

Paint the face with Dark Flesh.

Step 2:

Paint the nose with Dwarf Flesh.

Step 3:

And then the upper lip with Dwarf Flesh too.

Step 4:

Mix 75% Skull White and 25% Blood Red to get a bright pink.

Step 5:

Paint the whole face with Dwarf Flesh except the chin.

Step 6:

When that's done, paint the chin with Dwarf Flesh.

Step 7:

Paint the ears Dwarf Flesh.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 8:

Finally, highlight the cheeks, the chin and nose with Elf Flesh.

Now the rest of the fig...

It seems very simple seeing your pictures but my pulse is not so firm!:oldman:

Can I suggest an alternative...

Firstly paint the face brown

Paint all the face except some of the lines around the eyes and mouth a mixture of the base brown and a dark flesh in a 50/50 mix

Use the original flesh colour to highlight as Benno suggests

Mix the base flesh colour with a little white for a final highlight

thanks for posting this. it´s close to what i usually do, so it seems the biggest problem in getting the faces looking as good as yours sits at the other end of the brush.

Very nice paintings, the way you paint the face is also simillar to what I do.

BTW do any of you guys or gals paint eyes ??

I have never painted eyes too difficult to get right, fr to easy to get VERY wrong

Well I should say that when I say difficult, I mean with the ability I have

Well I can paint eyes, but it isn't possible on every figure. Else I would have figures with eyes and whitout eyes, now I have one style for every figure I paint. It also takes a LOT of time and most of the times it doesn't give the figure anything 'extra'.

This way of painting faces is easy and the results look good so I stick with this.

Do you guys want to see anything else explained in a tutorial?

Hi Benno,
I know how long it takes to paint a face like that: I saw you doing it.
When you paint alone standing figures you have to paint faces like that.
I am making a huge diorama with thousands of figures on it: so it's not neccesary for me to paint all faces. Only the ones on the edge will be painted better than the rest.
