:-D HOW I WOULD LIKE TO BASE UP MY TOY SOLDIERS
WELL MOST CERTAINLY THESE ONES

:eh: "EH?"

Image

There are four differing poses on a sprue, and so I decided to form four block formations. In this way like traditional toy soldiers I collect, each stretched out line of troops would be marching to the same rumpty - tum- tum - tum, drum beat pattern of uniformity.

So I began to cut them off their sprues.

Image

Because there are only 24 figures in a box and four of them command figures. I needed to buy more of the same French Soldiers to accomplish the fixed pattern of determination I had in my head. Well five poses of each just would not have any real visual presence at all.

Image

By doing this it tidied up each marching line. Although as you can see I left them headless to a most uncommon degree? " And one you are rather unlikely to see anywhere else."
:sst: " unless you visit bb`s you tube channel he owns", remarked the little helpful button.

Image

Using my tiny cutters they soon fell off the sprue, and were shuffled into their fit and proper parade ground place. 34 to each is still a bit twee and even with the Command figures yet to be seen, I did not get much for the £90.00 I spent on these. The one redeeming thing about them is only the backpack and Noggin need sticking on__________ and can be painted up well.

Image

This shows the first all in step block of well drilled toy soldiers. Behind them.....

Image

….. the second comes into plainer upright view. Although a couple turned out of place caused by my silly rattling of the table along our stone floor.

Image

Moving across at the back of my table this formation is all duly lined up and nearly fit for muster.
In front of them this one......

Image

...… the last little block comes hopefully into a pleasant understandable view.

Somehow I cannot imagine the Queen from the story of Alice,
ordering " On With Their Heads!" :-D BB

Yes heads a plenty for these Dalibor.

Perry Miniatures have lots of spare heads too in their boxed sets, so for other earlier periods, heads simply pinned can be swopped over time and time again.
:coffee: "I will need 2 design a head hanger instead of a coat hanger. Yes
easy to quickly paint a head with face, than a whole figure.
 " BB`s head swops!"
:cowboy: "Just think of the time and paint, and dark staining dip one could save?"

:sst: " what would the Queen from Alice in Wonderland demand?"

:winky: " Off with his head and on with another."
:read: " I`ll enter this in the journal,

Seeing the detail that needs painting after undercoat had been applied.
This will certainly be a help for my eyes. :-D BB

Yes Jan, it is tough going but I`m trying to paint a few heads along with the stretched out bodies they will sit upon. They will be my last painted presentation due to prolonged illness. BB

One ADC looks rather in doubt, while the other reasons" Look it must lay somewhere nearby?"
 " His hat I guess?"
"Come, come ,"says Blucher puffing drags from his pipe," Lets go knock that so called emperors hat off today?"
:sst: "yes after all it did have such a heavy headed fall.

With colours falling I started painting a few samples today.
However in way of pointed review I plonked them here. After all this is a review topic,
;-) and thankfully not a painting one. "I kinda like that BB." :coffee: " I thought you might."

The knapsack, Bags! Being double sided with bayonet frog and swords attached need painting before sticking them on. I bet I make a mess of that darn sticky thing when the time for it arrives.
:sst: " me too ."
Having a rest from painting i stuck heads on the French figures, well,30 of them anyway.
I`ll do the other 90 tomorrow if I am able. So hopefully I`ll have a little something to report.

Image

:coffee: A helpful review, well I hope it is anyway?

The 28mm Hat figures on the left stand 28mm to their eye level , and 31 mm at the top of their shako!Of course I did not include the plumes.
On the right the chunky War Lord Games Black Powder 28mm scale figures are a hefty 35mm at the shako top! I found a measurement of 29mm from ground level to their eyes.
Once again plumes were not included. So hats off to HAT, they sure got it spot on scale wise. I will still use them on their own or in the background on photo shoots

:coffee: Time for a slice of tea and a cup of cake! Quote from Worzel Gummidge :-D BB

Well I got stuck in today and 92 heads were fixed tight to Fusiliers, Grenadiers and Line infantry.
It took 3 hours to stick a neck where the neck of infantryman needed to be.

Trimming the bottom place where there is an irritating lump of plastic on each one took most of that time up. Its got to be done so that the head will fit nicely into place. Snipping off each well trained soldier from the sprue with cutters still left this lump to be trimmed down.

I decided to have all my troops facing to the front as if on parade. The reason being the coat and jacket collars are moulded as part of the tippy top face and shako covered head. Moving heads side to side would mean the collars do not line up with coat or indeed jacket. Yes hopefully you can understand this slight problem? For myself eyes front, glaring and mean suit my fancy best anyway.

Below shows one of each pose contained in the boxes.

Image

Another pose is possible to add here.

Image

Another two poses are possible here. That means 13 individual columns or lines of French infantry showing the uniformity of leg movement that I want of display. These need to be very large battalions in order to realise the full impact picture in my minds eye. So more snipping, trimming ,fiddling, and sticking is required. It does certainly eat big time into my day. :-D BB

180 WarLord Games Black Powder figures.

The heads being stuck solid into place means.....

Image

…. that the knap sack painting has begun. :-D A small start is better than none. "I like that bb."

I must sort out my Perry, and Victrix French infantry out soon.
Sorry the Prussians will have to wait.
A shortage of the 1st Set of Prussian Landwehr has caused the sharks on E Bay to double or trebble there greedy profit margins. I will buy the sprues elsewhere on line and bypass their rubbing hands of over eager expectation.

To overcome an act of unbalance is sure hard and the real irritating thing is standing these 28`s up when they are intent to fall over. :sst: " we can help you bb by steadying your hands" , said the little button. :cowboy: " Sure we can, P T S D is a long tough road to be on." :coffee: " Very true." I bought 4 boxes of these and saved £23.00 on the deal. That is a box and a half for free. :-D

Image

The sprue in this set is the same as in the other Warlord Games French Light infantry box already shown here.
I still have masses of heads left from those in the regulated uniform boxed sets. So I`ll convert some into Old Guard wearing bear skin head gear.

Now that I am familiar with these WL G figures and what`s in the boxes it is simply a matter of stacking up the numbers now. I like it that only two things need sticking on. Unlike Victrix and Perrys which I`m kind of dreading doing.

So I will have 180 in coats with the box I already have.
Plus 190 in dress uniform jackets plus command figures on each type of infantry figures. BB
