Narvik Krigsmuseum

The museum is located in the centre of Narvik and comprises part of the Tourist Information building.

Entrance is 100KR and can be paid by credit card.

The museum is in three zones with commentary in English as well as Norwegian.

The first is primarily about the battle for Narvik with an excellent module showing the various phases of the action. There are also many naval artefacts here including three German destroyer ships bells.

Guns, a British sea mine with its deployment system and German G7 torpedoes also feature.

Downstairs more military exhibits and uniforms represent the land fighting as the Germans got the upper hand. There is also a section on the role of the resistance and occupation.

A third zone has more general exhibits including a French Hotchkiss tank with a purposely bent barrel. There is a section on the polish ship Thunder sunk in Narvik with underwater pictures from an expedition to explore her.

The theme in this section is world peace, a nice if, unfortunately, a remote prospect.

There is a cafe, a shop and clean toilets.

One feature is the darkness in the museum, possibly to preserve artefacts? I found it made reading the exhibits difficult.

Recommended but I felt much more could have been included. For example, what about the Tirpitz campaign? There is a mention of her, PQ 17 and a picture but the story of the Queen of the North could warrant a museum of its own.
