Dear BFFmates, I changed my account flag from Germany to Togo some days ago. That's because my work will take me to Lomé for around a year, starting from next September 14. As you can imagine I am spending my days packing up. Great attention is put on my hobby luggage, on what figures should I put in for painting during my lonely African nights. Space is limeted, but not that little. They found their way in already a 1/72 Carthaginian army, a 15mm Louis XIV French army, and a 1/72 XV century Swiss army. There is still space for a box and, after having seen (and loved) so many nappies around I decided it's time to start my French napoleonic army. But for which box should I go? From where to start? I need your help brothers in arm. I have some ideas, but I am sure you have better ones. Cast your vote. Thanks a ton!

Well, I'm bound to say go for the wonderful Italeri French Dragoons as I've just finished some. That Zvezda Imperial Guard set also looks excellent and I've had my eye on that one too.

I thought Zvezda's Polish lancers that I painted recently were very good too.

Well - speaking of Africa, there are much unsafer places to go right now...

If you're going there for a year, you need mounted figures because they usually take longer to paint. French dragoons are always a good choice. The Mamlucks had no completely unified uniform, so they'll take quite a time as well.
Oh - and French infantry. Just because it makes the bulk of the army.

Btw - would you like to send me a PM about what you're doing in Togo? I'm pretty interested in first-hand-info from African countries. ;-)

From listed above I would say French Carabiniers. Dragoons are excellent too.

My suggestion for you are the cavalry sets! All three of them! ;-)

Uhm...100 infantrymen sounds a great and cheap start for an army.

I may squeeze and found place for 2 boxes, for dragoons are very "sexy"! :tongue:

Internet reached Africa! Connection may be unstable (frequent electricity black out in Lome), but I am sure I will not disappears from the BBF. As said, I have plenty of painting plans for my African nights. Family will not be there initially, so I have to kill loneliness. Thanks again to you all for the kind words.

Don't forget to bring along the excellent Zvezda French Artillery. It has everything you need for those nights at the hobby bench: horses, riders, troops, ordnance, wagons...

Hussars are always challenge to paint and take a lot of time to do it. Both sets (Italeri French and Zvezda Russian) are great IMHO

How to pass those long evenings? Anything with lots of braid, intricate details and preferably 100 figures to a box.

We make it sound as though he's going to spend the next year alone in prison! :lol:
