The Conquest of the Sahara

It's amazing how much time you have when you're sidelined with a knee injury. Having thoroughly enjoyed Douglas Porch's The History of the French Foreign Legion a few years ago, I wasn't disappointed in this one, either. Comprehensive enough to give a good overview of the bravado, the bumbling, the fortunes and misfortunes of French colonialism in North Africa in the 19th and early 20th centuries, without going into too much detail, the book moves right along. Recommended inspiration for those of you with some Legionnaires, Chasseurs d'Afrique, tirailleurs, Tuareg or Beduins to finish.
