BMW 326

Hello everyone, For my next project, I’ve
tried something completely new. It’s small, very rare, slightly modified, and entirely 3D-printed. It’s a BMW 326 from 1936 to 1941. The company
Thriumph des Willens produced this piece in 3D using resin. I ordered the 3D version and was not disappointed. The BMW 326 is 6.5 cm long, 22 mm wide, and 22 mm high. Unfortunately, no decals or window panes are included. The support structures are very fine and flexible. Removing the supports was very easy. Only around the rear doors did I need to do a little sanding.
Of course, I painted it in Wehrmacht gray.

Hello guys ,welcome to part 2 of the BMW 326

A colleague said, “You can’t do that in gray—make it nice and colorful.” So I stripped the paint, re-primed it, and painted it red (Citadel Contrast Baal Red).

I sprayed on the Baal Red with an airbrush. Oh no!! The red looked very neon on the primer. So, second try on Tank Gray. Bingo!! That was exactly the right shade. Not blood red, but a bit darker, more like wine red. The chrome parts were all painted with a 0.2 mm Silver
. The interior was color-matched to the exterior. The NR decals are from the printer; the windows were cut from clear vinyl and glued on with white glue.

S Berry: Yeah, I agree. The red isn't coming out right. My cold-light lamp is coming from the left. This is going to be interesting for the gallery fotos.

The original car is really lovely and looks great once it’s assembled, Jürgen. And your paintjob has made it look fantastic. Perhaps you could use thin sheets of clear acetate to make the windows.

Getting the white balance and the colors right in the photos can be difficult, I know that problem. I think the red looks more orange-ish in these pictures than in reality; it seems that this Citadel Contrast Baal Red is pretty close to the color of the vintage car that you have used as reference.

The choice of primer is much worse. I first primed the BMW with Valleyo primer in a light gray. After the first coat of red, I thought I was holding an orangein my hand. I then applied Tamiya Tank gray over it, with the current result. I think black would have been the better choice.
