Egyptian mythology

Posted by PhilC on 13 Jul 2025, 19:27

Good evening gentlemen. After more than 6 months, I could at last find time to paint and take pictures of a few figures for my current project - A 1/72 Mythologic Egyptian army.

Mythology is a very good way to mix Fantasy and Ancient figures, something that I like to do, and since Dark Alliance produced some very nice and unexpected sets, I had to use them for my project.

So here you are, some Mummies and Anubites:

I also wanted to paint a God avatar, and I could find a figure of Thoth in a 28mm range by Reaper Minis, together with some scarabs:

All those fantasy figures fit well with those old but still excellent sets by Caesar representing egyptian infantry:

That's it for today. You can find some more pictures and comments here: https://philotepsfigures.blogspot.com/2025/07/egyptian-mythology-of-gods-and-beetles.html

Next steps:
- some chariots, including the Pharaoh himself
- some more warriors
- some more anubites (my favorite)
- some giant scorpions
- a sphinx

I hope to post again before the end of the year ;-)

Great work as always - I look forward to seeing your chariots and your Pharaoh! (With some lions and their handlers to accompany him perhaps?)

Wow, Phil, another masterpiece, as spectacular as the Greek and Nordic mythological armies you showed us some time ago. I don't know which of the figures I would choose, the historical or the fantastic ones, because they are all superbly painted, as well as the scarabs. I especially love all the figures from Caesar Miniatures (my favourite manufacturer) and the Anubites. :notworthy:  :notworthy:  :notworthy:

Great work, my friend!

Yes exactly, the Pharaoh set by Caesar will be used, the chariot, the foot warriors, and some lions ;-)

Caesar was (is ?) one of the best 1/72 manufacturers ever, their representation of human anatomy is beautiful, though rather heroic.

Next time, I will also show some old Atlantic figures, very different from Caesar, but the best in my youth ;-)

Phil, you can paint your own Pharaoh or ask Kaiphranos to lend you his, which he showed us superbly painted almost 3 years ago, though without any lion.

Ah ah, Kaiphranos miniatures are always impressive, I hope to paint a Pharaoh as nice as this one (finger crossed) :)

No Pharaoh today, but a new creature for this army: a giant scorpio.

It is a 28mm figure from the Conan range by monolith. Since I want to be able to use it in Conan and in l'Art de la Guerre, I had to build a special base for it. Here you are a few steps of the process:

Now I have a good color scheme for the bases of the whole army. But I still need a Pharaoh

I already saw it at the time, Jan, but I really appreciate the reminder so that I could enjoy it again.
