Built a 2cm Flakvierling (Old Esci) new

Posted by JurgenH on 27 Jan 2025, 21:53

Hello modelling friends

Today I would like to present my new project. It is the 2cm Flakvierling from Esci.
A real club of a model. There is almost nothing wrong with it or too big.
We even paid money for it. What the heck, snow of Yesterday.

Image

I cannibalised the anti-aircraft gun for the time being, leaving the basic body and the weapons
without barrels. Then I looked for prototypes and measurements on the net.
Then I started to make parts and exchange them for the original parts.
There are the base plates, tubes and muzzle brakes, elevated weapon armour and some other things.

My goal: To build as much as possible myself and even have the part moveable in the end.
Yes, there are better parts such as the 2cm from Mako. But get them first. I also have the ambition to build it myself.

The first thing I did was to drill the inside of the guns to connect the two parts synchronously. Then I added the case catcher. Everything will be made from leftover plastic or Evergreen
profiles. Then there is the forend and another part whose purpose I have not yet found.

Here is the first attempt to use the tubes from Esci. Completely useless, because it is at least
a 7.5cm quadruplet. So I looked for a replacement and came across 0.9 mm syringe needles. After fitting the new tubes, however, they still seemed too thick.
3rd attempt with 0.7mm needles, I like that very much. The muzzle brakes are made from
1.2mm Evergreen profile turned with a Dremel.

Here I have built the height and side straightener. The corresponding handwheels will be added.

That's it for now.

I’m sure this will turn into a finely detailed and painted model before long, as you always manage with your projects!

I deeply admire all the craftsmanship you are doing to create the different parts needed to produce this model, Jürgen. As Rich points out, the end result will undoubtedly be splendid.

Hello all
I have continued building the flak. I added some parts that are already finished so that there are not so many parts lying around. This also gives a better overview of the further progress of the work.
The fairing for the middle weapon box is clearly visible. Foot boards and the hopefully movable visor. I have to install the weapons now because the control rod for the sight is attached to the left side. I have also built 3 new seats for the controls.
I'll glue them on later so they don't keep breaking off when handling the flak.

Hello all
It went on very laboriously with the flak. Many parts had to be researched, then scaled and made.
I have already sketched the shape of the gun carriage. The two triangles form the arms,
on which the ground spikes then sit.

Image

I have now glued the arms on the inside with a 3.2 mm bolt from the outside. To do this, I drilled a 3 mm hole in the inside of the arms. You can see this better in the first pictures in the article.
Then I added a long handle to the sight arm. This was then made movable.
On the left gun you can see a gray bolt . with this and the rod on the white cardboard
the wire sight (also on the box) is controlled.

Image

Image

On closer inspection I noticed the poor quality of the magazine boxes. And wrong, there must be 7 magazines in the box, not 5. A very tricky job. The triangles are only 3x3 mm and tend to stick to the tweezers. The divisions are all set by hand, but calculated from the dimensions.

Image

So that's it for now .

Cheers
Jürgen

Didn't buy that many ESCI models back in the day (focused on their figures), but I bought some so I follow this with interest.

Hello all
First of all I would like to thank everyone who has supported me so well with their expertise in my projects. Thank you very much.

Here is a little update
After I cut out the carriage from the 2mm plate, I used a circle cutter. There were also a few failed attempts. Partly I used the Dremel as a lathe. The screws are balls from a water filter that were glued into pre-drilled holes. The round pieces for the ground spikes are also turned with the power tool. I use a tool from Proxon. The transformer and the tool are adjustable. This allows me to regulate to almost 0 rpm. To make it clear, I have primed the carriage and highlighted the parts in color.

Here is a picture of a mishap. The magazine rack got caught on my sleeve, fell down and I stepped on it very skillfully.

Image

Now it's time for the protective shield. First I built the holder that goes into the wooden boards that go in the magazines. I cut the protective shield out of 0.1 mm plastic card. The rivets were pressed in with a pointed tool.

Now I have installed most of the parts I made, only the shield and the flash hider are missing.
muzzle flash hider. These are only added at the end, otherwise the carpet monster will come and eat them.
Here is the finished model. Only the magazines are missing. I'm currently casting them in resin,

Hello
I know I haven't posted anything for a long time. A lot has happened, sometimes I didn't feel like continuing, or didn't have the time. I have continued in many small steps. Now it's worth showing what I've built and painted.
First a picture without colour.

Then in camouflage.

The protective shield parts remain swivelling later.
I had to organise a small casting orgy, I didn't have enough ammunition parts.

Imageupload pictures

Then I put together the first set of figures.

Image

Does anyone know the companies or sets? Some are easy other figures are rare.

The anti-aircraft gun is painted and I have built it movable as already indicated. This means that the barrel elevation controls the sighting arm with the gunner's sight. The first 2 pictures
The magazine racks are filled, only one seat of the ammunition gunner is broken off. This will be replaced at the end.

I will be happy to answer any questions about the model.

Greetings Jürgen

Hello all
What's wrong with you, none of you know the characters. I think most of you have more knowledge than I do.
