Hi Santi.

That really is a fantastic piece of model engineering.

I used a similar idea for my Union band but nothing as clever as that.

Brilliant work.

Best wishes,
Chris

From a picture to formulation process of making something is the way of the scratch builder, and you Sante have that skill. Bravo! BB

Thanks so much for your your kind comments, Donald, Bessiere, Stephan, Chris and BB. :-D

Bessiere wrote:Oh Santi, seeing your horn makes the old engraver in me think what tools I could use to add details to it. With your level of skill and patience I'm sure you could use most of those tools. Seriously, I have a shop full of hand engraving tools if you like to try out a few. I'd be more than happy to send you some, just Pm me. Your touch in sculpting these bandsmen is such great stuff. Superb stuff my friend. Your projects are always stunning.
Cheers,
Bessiere

I really appreciate your offer, Bessiere, but I don't think I could do justice to using such valuable tools for their intended purpose. :(

sberry wrote:This precision is impressive and proves once again that you are a Master of Conversions! The horn can't be much larger than about 3 or 4 millimeters, I'd estimate...

Once a ruler was used, the main circle of the horn actually measures 5.5 mm in diameter, Stephan.

I've already finished the French horn player conversion. I'll post the pictures as soon as I can photograph it. ;-)

Thank you, Owen. It would be hard for you to have done this same conversion, hahaha. But you have others at least as interesting as that. ;-)

At the beginning and throughout this thread I have been posting some of the images I have found on the internet with information about the band I'm representing in this project.

But in addition, I also have videos recorded by myself and published on YouTube, which serve as inspiration and source of information.

Here are some of them (the first one is older and already posted in the forum, but the following ones are from this month, and correspond to the performance of the Royal Guard Music Unit in front of the Royal Palace in Madrid, after the solemn changing of the guard held on 2 April):

I hope you enjoy them and thanks for watching. :-)

Here is the French horn player of the band. As I mentioned in a previous post, the original figure was one of the cymbal players from the Airfix set:

I firstly removed his arms to glue on his chest the French horn previously made from scratch:

The arms were then glued (with the cymbals removed) in the right position so that they could interact properly with the musical instrument. As usual, the original fur hat was replaced by the typical plumed ros, and the final result was this:

The finished figure has taken its place in the little box where I now have the 16 different components of the band. How its contents have grown since I first used it to store the first five figures!

The next stage is to produce the remaining 8 members of the band, which are repetitions of some of the 16 already produced (I will include several women among them to represent the actual composition of the band). ;-)

Hello Santi,
long time, no see. Love your works. The band is taking form. The French horn is a piece of jewelry - really. I also like very much your papal progression, but that is another thread.
You are coming close to the end here, just 5 figures? and some painting :)

In fact, Enrico and Michael, the horn has been the element that has given me the most work of all the ones I've done so far in this project. :sweatdrop:

Actually, right now I'm missing only seven figures to have the band ready, since I've just finished the first of the repeated figures. I'll see when I can take some pictures of her (yes, she's a female musician).

And when I finish the band, I'll still need the colour party which I want to use also in the corresponding diorama. Not to mention the paintjob, which is another story for the indeterminate future. :(

I'm afraid there's still a long way to go before we start to see the light at the end of the tunnel for this project, Chris, although I'll keep working on it, of course. ;-)

What I was able to do was take several photos of the first 16 completed figures. Here they are:

I hope you like them. Best regards. :-D

Hello Santi,
"hope you like them" => Yes, I love them. A marching music band. Spanish Guards. Great progress and great sight. The conversion work really paid off, and painted they will be smashing.
Hope you get the opportunity to paint them soon - back in your home.
Many greetings
Michael

Thank you, Enrico and Michael. ;-)

Here's the band's newest member. She's a female clarinet player, joining the existing male oboe player. Both figures are almost identical; the only differences are the woman's bun on the back of her head and the instrument they play: she plays the clarinet and he the oboe, very similar and indistinguishable at this scale:

Best regards! :-)

Great band Santi,
Did you also have fun with the conversions? I love it when something different is created from a figure. It's always your own unique piece. Now that you've reached the finish line, it's giving you another boost of motivation. Very nice Santi.

Thank you so much for your encouragement, Jürgen. The truth is for the last few years I'm enjoying the entire process of converting and creating completely unique figures more than painting, which is quite 'traumatic' for me due to my aspiration for the greatest possible perfection.

Instead of saying I've reached the finish line, let's say I'm getting close to it because I still have about ten figures left to finish the first part of the project. :sweatdrop:

Best regards!

Santi.

Hi Santi,
my wife plays oboe and I play clarinet. Should send you a picture to show these are quite different instruments :winky:
Good progress. Seeing it all come together. They are marching on.
Greetings
Michael

You are absolutely right, Michael. After looking in detail at pictures I've searched on the internet, the differences are quite noticeable. Well, nothing, my band's are two clarinets and that's it, hahaha.

The second trombone player is now ready, so I have the two who will be part of the band. Here they are both together:
