Very creative as always.

I am thinking about an Austrian band but I am being driven mad by caterpillars at the moment.

Perhaps some buildings might calm me down?

Best wishes,

Chris

I think you hit the nail on the head in that so many different interests can be expressed in "our" hobby. I doubly appreciate the fact that most of us are far from young people any more and sadly creativity seems to decline with age along with ambition. The frosting on top is we get to realize what many of dreamed of in our youth. That is true for me anyway.

Dear Santi, of course you are right: to use different painting patterns is of course the obvious solution to avoid repetitions when one uses figures of the same pose.

Thank you very much for your feedback, Donald, Chris, Bessiere and Stephan. As soon as the sad cyber attack of these Temu hackers on the forum is over ( :( ) I will post the pictures of the latest addition to the band. ;-)

I don't think as much as I do, Gunnar, although I fear the end is still a long way off.

After the figure I'm going to show now, I still have 10 more to go. With the next two I will have a copy of the 16 different figures that will be part of the band, although these two will require a lot of conversion work. One will have an euphonium (which is like a tuba, but facing the wrong way) and the other a French horn (which I will have to create from scratch). :sweatdrop:

But before we get to that, here is the latest member to join the band. This is a saxophone player, made from the original Airfix figure and without too many transformations.´

And this is the final figure:

Best wishes to all. :-)

The fifteenth musician of the band is now ready. It's a euphonium player, this instrument being basically like a tuba, but a bit bigger and played in the opposite direction to the tuba.

The original Airfix figure was the tuba player, although it was a bit of a tricky conversion, as it involved sacrificing two tuba players. The first was stripped of his instrument (which meant destroying it) and the second provided the new one to add to the first. I also had to add new arms in the right position to hold the euphonium correctly. :sweatdrop:

After all the effort and time invested, I am quite satisfied with the result, as you can see here:

In this picture I have put the two figures (the tuba player and the euphonium player) together to be able to appreciate the differences between them:

The next figure will be the last of the 16 different ones that will make up the band, but it will also be the most complicated, as I will have to create its French horn from scratch.

Thanks for watching! :-D

I have to clear up an unforgivable misunderstanding that I have been dragging along in this thread almost from the beginning and which all those who understand anything about musical instruments will have realised. Although my musical knowledge is very limited, my wife is a music teacher, which makes my mistake even more serious, for not having consulted her.

It is only now, after some googling, that I have realised that I have been continually confusing the tuba with the euphonium. The former is bigger and sounds deeper than the latter, when I have always been saying the opposite. :winky:

My apologies to all those music lovers who may have been offended by the mistake. ;-)

Santi, not only you are creating excellent figures, but you are also teaching us the different instruments :-)
I never heard before of the euphonium, now thanks to you I know something more :xd:

Dear Santi, I think this mistake is forgivable and does not diminish your achievements with this project in any way! I am in a similar situation: My wife is the music expert in the family, not me, and so

As usual love your work. I can't tell he difference between the instruments. Only I can say that I think I've heard of the euphonium in the old TV-series Fame where I think a guy played it. I always thought that it was just a fancier name for a tuba.

Thanks so much for your words, Enrico, Stephan and Gunnar. I'm glad that what I have learned is useful for someone else as well.

My working day yesterday was very productive. After a lot of work, I was able to make my French horn from scratch. When I can take some pictures, I will tell you how I did it. ;-)

Thank you, Jürgen. I hope you like the next one too. ;-)

This is the French horn I had to get:

Image Image

To make the instrument I used two very simple elements: a few pieces of thin wire (bent into the right shapes wiht my fingers and tweezers, then glued with contact glue) and a piece from my spare parts box obtained from the first issue of a collection for the building of a model castle:

Image

The horn obtained was this one:

To get an idea of the size, the following two pictures show the horn with the Airfix figure I will use for it. It's one of the cymbal players, as the arms are separated from the chest. On this one I will glue the horn and then place the arms in the proper position to hold and play it correctly:

ImageImage

Sorry for the dark pictures, I hope you can see them well. :(

Best regards for all! :-)

Thank you very much for your kind words, Enrico and Dalibor. :-D

The truth is that I had to use all my patience and skill to make the horn, but I like the final result. :winky:

I'm already adding the instrument to the figure that will carry it, although I'm having a hard time getting it in the right position and adjusting the arms to hold it properly. :sweatdrop:

Oh Santi, seeing your horn makes the old engraver in me think what tools I could use to add details to it. With your level of skill and patience I'm sure you could use most of those tools. Seriously, I have a shop full of hand engraving tools if you like to try out a few. I'd be more than happy to send you some, just Pm me. Your touch in sculpting these bandsmen is such great stuff. Superb stuff my friend. Your projects are always stunning.

This precision is impressive and proves once again that you are a Master of Conversions! The horn can't be much larger than about 3 or 4 millimeters, I'd estimate.
