Emperor's Service Squadrons

Posted by Captain Sibourne on 28 Sep 2022, 11:51

The Waterloo project has been working on the four Service squadrons and some of the 11 carriages that made up Napoleon's headquarters.

I've done the Horse Grenadier Squadron, Liam is in charge of Chasseurs and Red Lancers and Graham is doing the Empress Dragoons. There aren't many suitable figures for this so lots of cutting, carving and converting has taken place.

Some are on the diorama, some are to be placed when complete. There will be 100 in each squadron.

Absolutely brilliant. This project is incredibly inspirational Captain ..... thanks a million for sharing with us. Many things I'd like to comment on but don't have time now. Will add further comments and praise when I have a bit more free time on my hands.

Magnificent! I can see the huge number of conversions done and the very fine degree of painting which seems most appropriate representing the creme de la creme of the French cavalry as they do. Being close to the Emperor will make them centers of much attention so the lavish treatment is in no way uncalled for. I'm most curious about the mounted band - who manufactured those and how many were conversions?
I suppose we can blame the cossacks for these illustrious formations since they came so close to capturing Napoleon on several occasions. Am I making an incorrect assumption about this?

Many thanks all! Bessiere, the Empress Dragoon band are converted from Les Higgins and S Range on other horses. The Mameluke kettle drummer is the Art Minaituren Roustam with drums added. Hope that helps

A splendid array of Napoleon's Guard cavalry! A very high degree of ingenuity and model-making skill has clearly been involved in creating these units, and full praise to all those involved. The carriages and mounted band are great additions.

The Service squadrons around the Emperor will, of course, be a key focal point of the huge Waterloo diorama as it is displayed at the National Army Museum. Magnificent work!
