Medieval City in Southern Germany

Posted by sansovino on 06 Mar 2021, 15:57

Really a longtime project: a medieval town in Southern Germany or Bohemia around 1400.

Most of the buildings are 3d-models of Najewitz which I have partly transformed and varied: shop groundfloors and openings, other half timbering, more pending and different rooftops etc. etc. I will add 4 partly opened buildings: a townhall, a church, an inn and bath-inn-house with visible interiors. The painting isn´t finished.

The church will been new constructed - the first elements are shown (the walls and capitals are still in process.

Hope you will enjoy it....

Most of its population exists already, but not painted - mostly original or transformed figures of the wonderful producer Valdemar.

Very nice start indeed

The tiles look very pink but it is probably the light.

There is a ‘feel’ of the time there already.

Best wishes,

Chris

Dear Chris, the roofs are indeed less pink.

Here some more recent photos - the painting continues still. There are only the first basic colours, The roof-tiles will receive still more indivdual colour-alternations and the clay-surfaces more impasto surfaces with many layers.

What a fantastic start! I can't wait to see the final result.
How many different buildings will be there altogether?

I envy you that you have the pace to display such a big project. I can also recommend the houses of Fredericus Rex. But I think you know him and his Green-Line range. I will also follow this with great interest.

Hello Sansovino,
your embryonic diorama is very impressive already. A great project digging into history. Of course, I am curious what type of scenes you will be depcting in your town. Many stories to tell. Also, I remark that you are entering the group of of builders of cathedrals. That is absolutely stunning indeed. Our ancestors took generations to build them.
All my "spriritual" support in your enterprise
Greetings
Michael

I will continue to post the next developments. Thanks for your respones, especially Santi and Michael Robert.

To your questions:
It will been around 16 buildings + city wall.

And yes, I know Fredericus Rex with his wonderful Green Line-buildings. One, a romanic palas will been integrated in my diorama and eventually a construction-wheel for the church construction site too. And I will use some medieval figure-sets from Fredericus Rex too.

Most of the buildings will been printed 3d models - very often modified to create more different buildings.

The next steps will been the tavern and the last church elements: the sculptured gothic entrance-portal which I will develop 3d with the help of a friend.
