16th century Carrack

Posted by Mart17 on 27 Feb 2021, 21:28

I bought this old, dirty and damaged model of Santa Maria for 10€. It's made mostly from wood, but also cardboard and plastic. My plan is to repair it and convert it into 16th century Carrack. It's gonna be a lot of work, but I'm quite looking forward as this will be a little bit unusual build :)

Quite a lot of damage as you can see here

And a looooot of dust :)

Looks like scale is perfect for 1/72?

Demolition started. To be honest I found out I like removing stuff from models as much as adding them :D

Something like this is my goal. Carrack was a weird looking but beautiful ship

And of coarse I want to add some figures, but I doubt I could find many sailors from this period.
Wish me luck :)

An interesting looking project.

Redbox make three sets of Spanish sailors for the c16th: one of these is mainly figures actually involved in sailing the ship, one is sailors in action, and one is an artillery set. All are 1/72 scale.

That's such a neat ship! I can imagine that there's a lot of fun to be had working on it.
