French revolutionary wars - French 54th regiment

Posted by CPN on 23 Feb 2021, 16:50

Hello everyone,
I finally nearly completed the 1791 regulation 54th regiment ex "Royal Roussillon" if I am correct.

The flags is still being made and will the one from the second battalion.

I wish more manufacturers could produce on this period but...
In the meantime try to guess all the brands I had to use to make this unit.
Kind regards.

That's a nice looking unit!

You used Hat, Italeri, Strelets and Zvezda figures I think. :eh:

Looking good. Not familiar with these so I'm guessing you did a lot of conversion especially with the heads? Very well done and unique.

Hello,
Thank you.

So the inspiration came when I discovered this forum about 9 years ago and someone at the time converted superbly some italeri into French revolution infantry. See here
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3423&hilit=Enfants

Since then I was really motivated. Obviously I can't match the level of quality but it is enough for me.

On this I used 2 Hat references, Italeri and Strelets .

This professional regiments were nick named "les culs blancs" or "the white asses".

All the new recruits were to wear the new national uniform in blue and since them the term rookie in France is "le bleu" for someone who knows nothing at a new job.
Next unit will be in blue.
Kind regards.

Bonjour Chariobaude ,

I used 17 of them plus some heads as you have seen.
I used any kinds of tarleton I was possibly gathering so royal horse artillery and rocket were easy victim of my guillotine.

I have now two other battalions to do but this time in blue uniforms and with a mix headgear between tarleton and bicorne.

Je vous souhaite une excellente journée.
