My Republican Roman Army goes on....

Triarii (singular: Triarius) were one of the elements of the early Roman military manipular legions of the early Roman Republic (509 BC – 107 BC). They were the oldest and among the wealthiest men in the army and could afford high quality equipment. They wore heavy metal armor and carried large shields, their usual position being the third battle line. They were equipped with spears and were considered to be elite soldiers among the legion.

Like alway very well painted miniatures which are a great joy. I have only the question, if you will "wash" them still? Some dirt or shadows can give them still a little more realism - the colours are looking still a little bit too bright, but eventually it´s only a false impression of the photo lights.

I like the results of the painted chainmail a lot.
Which technique do you use?
I usually apply black with silver or chrome drybrush and a wash. That looks okay, but yours looks far more realistic. Would be glad if you got some advice.

Be sure that none will be bored with so high quality painted figures, Konrad. The original Zvezda figures are great, but your paintwork improved them a lot.

More Romans from Konrad is a very good thing and these look fabulous.

I'm amazed at how good the drab earthy colours of the Princeps tunics look. Very realistic but also really eye catching and attractive. First rate painting!

Never tired of 1/72 ancients, painting is of course great. If you're highlighting it's very subtle, do you use inks or washes?

The Velites (singular: veles, German: skirmishers) were a formation in the Roman Republic. Before the first meeting, they stood in loose formation in front of the Hastati and began the battle with a skirmish. Usually their task was to displace the opposing skirmishers, to disrupt the opposing formation with javelin throws, to retreat behind their own lines in time and to let the heavily armored Hastati do the close combat. Due to their mobility and range, they also proved to be particularly effective in repelling war elephants and chariots.


Now that I have painted all the infantry poses,
only the officers are missing.
