Outstanding. Not just a workable wargames item but a joy to look at.

Hello Peter,
I used DAS air drying modeling clay. First time I have used the stuff. I was not happy with the extra weight it added to the roof. So when I post pictures of the hospital I went back to my standard thatch roof material paintable acrylic caulk. Much lighter in weight.
Here is a link to the caulk thatch method.

It appears that I might actually get a wargame in this month so I have set up my rendition of Rorke's Drift in hopes of having a go in a week or so!

This is my first visit upon your topic Paul. i realise my eyes are getting worse for wear, but i cannot understand why i missed all your postings here upon this hot dusty line drawn out upon this famous battle ground. My, O', My ! Your painting style , and model making is awesome and truly inspiring!

i was wondering,
Are there any gaming rules applied in play for rifle jamming, because the Martini Henry Mark 1 of 1873,was badly prone to do this? That Rifle and its ammo dished out to the British armed forces was one of the worst of its kind. :stressed:

Thank you for all of the praise it makes one feel wanted!

BB no ammo jamming rules as of yet. You make a very good point about jamming weapons. Some of Durnfords last acts were unjamming fouled weapons one handed! What ever else you feel about the guy thats a good trick!

I have been working on my Zulu war project the last few weeks and I thought I would stage a grand review for my Zulu army. I think I have around 160 Zulus yet to complete but I have a pretty good army at this point.
I have 848 figures in the main Impis. 84 rifles and 12 leaders for a total of 944 figures. I hope my feeble picture taking is forgiven.
Thanks for looking.

I see you've named all your units....no doubt historically matching name & shield pattern.

I'm not a great fan of re-cycling units to make up any shortfall in "horde" numbers but you clearly needn't even consider doing this.

A very impressive collection.

I was wondering how I had missed this enormous project until I started to look at the posting dates.

This is a tremendous labour of love and the visual impact is is stunning, especially as it is primarily a war game.

It is lovely to see it approaching fruition.

Best wishes,

Chris

Wow! A tremendous sight. With so many miniature Zulus arrayed on the table-top this has the look of a real 1-1 scale Impi. Well done!

Just a few more figures to finish off those flanking 'horns' perhaps, and then the heavily-outnumbered model defenders of Rorkes Drift will have good reason to tremble.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Chris this is very much a wargame force. It has been in my mind since I was 17 years old around 1979 or 1980. When The Sword and The Flame rules came out and colonial wargaming exploded in the US and this when I was getting into wargaming as a hobby. I started and stopped this project and sold off both 25mm lead figures and my first ESCI Zulu war figures. But I am back and determined to finish it!!
Next up are the Anglo forces.

This is all just excellent Paul, when done! Great to see all the forces combined. Is there any particular unit you're especially happy with?

Geez tough question Rich. I like the Zulu army. All my mistakes are masked by the shear numbers!!! Actually the Rorke's Drift buildings turned out better than I thought. Surpassed my expectations.
