Childhood dreams

Posted by Santi Pérez on 28 Sep 2020, 21:28

After the fantastic British childhood dreams, now come the no less fantastic French childhood dreams. Great work, Egbert.

My best regards.

This was the very first set of figures I ever bought, which was over 50 years ago now. I think I paid .$.33, maybe $.35 w/tax. Being a child I thought US marines would make a good opponent for the french. Lots of memories with this set.

You've done a very nice job of sprucing these big headed fellows up Egbert. I do like the variety of poses even though many are unrealistic. It adds a naive charm. Anyhow, well done sir!

Then you must read this topic if you didn't do this yet. ;-)

The Nappies were not my first figures, rather my last for quite a while, but I do remember them very fondly whatever we can say about the poses. (the Grenadiers and the Prussians would have to wait for some time before I had grown up and could buy them :-D ). Very nice to see the redone like this!

Hello everybody,
after several months of exhausting painting,
the characters of the "Waterloo French Infantry" are finally finished.
Here too it was very difficult and arduous
to get something sensible out of the old Airfix figures.
But I am very happy with the result.
I painted them as a French line infantry at the time of the Battle of Waterloo.

Re-issues are still being produced by HAT,if anyone wants to paint those AIRFIX figures in their own unique style.
I must admit that Egbert , has made them look delightfully pleasing to my eye. Well Done.

i remember in the cold winter of 1972 that they flew off the shelves in the WOOLWORTH stores in the nearby city of Norwich. However it would be many years later before i attempted to paint some.
My three Daughters still have found recollections of seeing their Dad, painting them. Trying to,i must add here. They would make anyone smile BB.

:coffee: i agree. BB

I always found the poses and anatomy of these figures a bit strange.
But you made little masterpieces out of them.
My compliment.

Wow you really did justice to these figures! I love the neat black lines separating the jackets and sashes and of course I don't have to comment on the painting!

Incredible, I'm very impressed by your level of conversion and painting on these old dear chunky figures. I always thought I should try to paint some, maybe this time is coming thanks to you.

Hi Egbert.

Once again, congratulations on not only a superb painting effort but your imagination in creating these poses.

It is a pity that Airfix did not have you as a designer in the first place.

Best wishes,

Chris

Quite outstanding! I have never seen Airfix Waterloo French infantry looking as good as these, with the excellent painting and conversions.

I still have hundreds of these chunky figures, and I remember in the past being in mild despair that Airfix had not produced a better range of poses and finer sculpts for what was, in the 'olden days', the main set for all sorts of Napoleonic infantry, French and otherwise. If only Airfix had had the imagination and skill to produce the figures that you have now converted! The standard bearer with a proper eagle, the standing fusilier with shouldered musket and the fusilier with musket at high port are all a joy to behold.
