Childhood dreams

They look really nice so far Egbert! And I understand very well that these figures aren't easy to paint. Details aren't as sharp as on the figures from these days!

To be helpful to you Egbert, along with others too.
There was a metal plate buckle where the belts crossed each other on the soldiers chest.
This was however often obscured by the bag,and water canteen straps which were thrown on last.
it is very easy to paint that metal plate in without being to ornate about it.
Great painting style on those figures from way back in my younger days of play.

Thank you BB for the Information! :-D
Of course...it's right!
The pictures are now 4 weeks old.
Meanwhile I painted the metal plate buckle where the belts crossed.
I hope it's correctly.

Fantastic topic. Meanwhile in my middle 40s I often look for those childhood memories and figures. The Airfix Napoleonics were among the first figures I have started painting with in the 80s. Airfix is one of the oldest plastic figure forges. But no toy shop in my rural area had them for sale. For years I didn´t knew about their existence, but I was already infected with the modeller virus. So I grew up mostly with Matchbox. Even the small Edeka Market in our neighbour village had those pocket money kits. Later on in Amberg (bigger town in my area) there was a model store which sold Airfix and Esci (also the great battle boxes). And in the late 80s finally Revell´s great (with one exception...Fallschirmjäger) 1/72 sets appeared…..my first two sets were the Normans and the Pretorian Infantry…..and I had no problem to put them together on one battlefield.

Keep up the good work!

Regards Thomas

Hello everybody,
the matter is gradually coming to an end ...
It was a very strenuous and arduous job to get something sensible out of of the "old boys"
As is well known, the quality of the figures in relation to what you get today is not even close to comparable.
But I am quite happy with the result.
I depicted the 27th inniskilling regiment of foot in the battle of Waterloo.

Well at least the painting's good, and there's something charming about the old sculpts!

Your painting skills are second to none!! I know I am probably in the minority but I love the Old Airfix british infantry that you painted. My entire British army is made up of them. I loved them as a kid as well. They served in many battle is my Sandbox.

Very interesting to like your figures, but hate mine! Well done on painting them.
Mine are resting somewhere in the UK, in Landfill. BB

You have every reason to be proud of the result, Egbert, because you have elevated the category of these toy soldiers to that of elite miniatures with your conversion and painting works on them.

My very best congratulations.

You have transformed a rather tired old set in odd positions into some wonderfully natural poses

These blokes look fantastic. I can't believe how much detail you have managed to bring out especially in the faces. Extraordinary work Egbert!

Here now comes part 2...

The "Waterloo French Infantry "

Here I also made some changes to these figures,
to increase the number of different positions and postures.

The old pack with the original figures …

Egbert.

You are a genius to make anything worthwhile from these troops.

Excellent work.
