Spring Offensive | WW1 Trench Assault

This is just a small diorama which is only a "side project". I think those 3 figures are just enough. Right now I'm thinking how I could make a realisticand and scaled barbed wire. I've seen some of such products for it, but they look too big & unrealistic. Any ideas?

Hi Mart,
haven‘t been very active here in recent months, thus the somewhat late reply.

Maybe one of the following photoetched products fits your need nevertheless?

CMK Maritime Line 180159
E.T. Model J72-005 and J72-006
Hauler 72058
Model Scene 48150

Good luck with your project, really like this action-loaded but yet atmospheric WWI scene. Hope to see some progress when the time comes?!

The otherwise nice Pegasus kit unfortunately is 1/48 scale (some retailers actually recommend it for 1/35) and indeed far too massive for Mart‘s 1/72 project. A friend ordered a box some years ago and we both evaluated it unsuitable for braille scale, but okay for larger ones.

Preiser offered a 1/87 (better known as H0) set many years ago (# 18337), no idea if it still available and I can‘t comment on its appropriateness & sophistication.
Another H0 set I know about but didn’t use myself so far is Weinert 3276.

Considering 1/87 the smaller scale (compared to 1/72) it could potentially offer the more delicate barbed wire. On the other hand, we all know that smaller scales inevitably entail more simplifications.

Whatever the solution for the wire will be, let us know if the Landser will make it there.

I made once barberd wire from simple yarn with knots.
I used it as a fence between 2 poles, but with some white woodglue you can make it like you want.
It only cost a lot of time and patience....

Just a small progress as I work on other projects too.
Figures are ready for painting and the base surface looks kind of how I want, but it's not entirely finished. I'll probably use some waters effects to make it more "muddy"

I'm still undecided how I'll make or buy the barbed wire. Probably I'll try to make it from scratch first, because that's always more fun :)

Maybe some thin iron wire bend around a pensil can do the trick. In that scale normally you don't see the pins.

Looking forward to your next post of this project! ;-)

The first test. Not sure if entirely scaled but if I'm going to make it even smaller nobody will see the pins as Peter said :-)

That barbed wire looks really good to me. Much better than the "twist around the pencil" technique that I never found that convincing.

So finally some update. It's not perfect, but I think it looks a bit better than some finished product I could buy. I just glued these wires, so later I'm going to paint some rust and weathering.

I was thinking about buying this, but I couldn't find zoomed enough picture to see pins and overall quality. Is it good?
