Arab village under construction

Hi Guys,

As some of you might have seen i have painted some arabs and ffl some time ago.

Now after looking at the briljant houses of Bill and learning a lot of his method (thanks Bill !!):

i decided that my ffl and arabs needed a place to get together and talk about bennosfiguresforum. And i also decided to make them smaller then in the real world because my space isnt that big. And i made them a little bit fantasy like because so they have some more possibilities to use. Now no more talking but pictures !!

First some briljant drawnings

hi guys,

well i have my own space back and thus more room for the hobby. And i Always find it nice after a lot of paintwork to do something different so it was back to may arabic village.

I did quite a lot alredy so here a the steps/pics :


First i removed the bases....why?... wel i just didnt like them . They were way to thich so i removed them and…..


Replaced them for mdf bases which i then sanded and then glued the houses back on again,


Next i glued little rocks and thick paper on the bases.


this picture shows it better . i just put different shapes and rocks wherever liked them.


then time for dessert ! chocolate vanilla pudding with cream or...… just yellow and brown paint and whiteglue. this was then mixed with water and….


the most expensive item of the whole project . Sand from het Scheveningse strand (just google it)


then i just started spreading this mixture over al the bases and...


now the most difficult thing of all…. waiting for it to dry

Interesting. You didn´t add PVA or such to the mixture? Just paint? Does it dry hard and stay stuck to the bases?

i did use pva/woodglue/whiteglue to fix it al , and for those who hve never glued sand on a base dont be cheap with the glue so use enough otherwise it wil come off

with al the bad things happening in the world at the moment it is good to have a hobby. I dont know how everybody else is getting trough the days but i try to focus at least a couple of hours a day on our hobby and block al the bad knews out of my head for a short period. This gives me some sort of peace in my head and also gives me the energy to put everything in perspective and not get (moore) depressed.

Well enough said here are some next steps

so this is how it looked after everything was dry


next step was some heavy drybrushing


now this is how it looked before the drybrush


and this afterwards. I Always find it quite fascinating to see the difference


and here the whole lot was drybrushed


now since i have some more time i decided to make 2 more things. first a statue. Now this doesnt look quite arabic but who knows perhaps the whole village was once build by cristian Knights in the wholy land.... or perhps an old gondorian knight as an outpost in the far harad…. we will never know
and what i think is very usefull in the dessert is a waterwell.... i think people can get quite thirsty in the dessert

next step the sandmixture and….. wait till its dry


i think that i will put some vegetation on the bases because they look very desolate at the moment and i also will put some palm trees here and ther just to live it up a bit. But that is for the next update, for know i hope you all stay healty !!!

I really like to see the progress, Since I am interested in the desert war of WWII I like to see how other created desert buildings. It will be nice to see the whole scenery in the end. Let the FFL come.
