Sherman Fury

This is my new project with the most famous Sherman : Fury.

The tank of the film seems to be given to be an M4A2E8 with T84 tracks but this kind of Sherman did not serve on the European front during the Second World War.

So, just like the version that was shown in the Steelmasters 158 (French Modelers Magazine), I decided to make a Sherman whose presence in Germany in 1945 is possible historically.
Do, it will be a M4A3E8 with T66 tracks.

Small mix between the real history and the cinema, therefore.

- Résin accessories, box and ammunitions
- Correct T23 turret (Late)

Fantastic. Love the crazy amount of stowage, the trophy helmet, and best, the wooden logs strapped to the side in a desperate attempt to ward off German Panzerfaust attacks!

That is so messy. And glorious! I love it. The tank crew has a sense of humor since they put a gas mask underneath the trophy helmet to give him a face. Betcha they named him and joke about how he is looking out for danger.

How did hanging logs off the sides of the vehicle help to stop panzerfaust attacks?

The Panzerfaust ( Tank fist) was a hollow charge explosive device.

The idea is that the internal shaping of the charge directs a super hot stream of gas through the plate it detonates against.

The logs hopefully pre empt the device attaching to the hull and thus reduce its effectiveness.

Fantastic modelling of this now iconic vehicle.

Personally I thought the film was excellent until the tiger nonsense. The ending was abysmal.

I haven't seen the film. And I won't be. Hollywood is beyond repair when it comes to historical accuracy. Let me guess, the German characters all speak perfect American-style English?

Anyway, what happens in the end? A Sherman faces a Tiger I alone and wins? Yuck yuck.

Hi,

I suggest you give the film a go as it is initially very visceral and authentic.

The panzer Faust, wood attack and town attack are very well done in my opinion.

The problems begin with a Tiger 1 shooting up the US platoons rear tank ( in column on a road) rather than the leading one, and then advancing to close the distance on the Americans.

Procedure would be get the first one, then the last and pick the rest off.

The Tiger was a distance weapon with the 88mm and this was a huge advantage over the Sherman. Why throw it away?

The ending is the Alamo re enacted. The SS are shown armed to the teeth with Panzer Schrects ( tank terror) and Faust’s but Brad fights them off .

Nonsense.

You are right Chris..., first I thought that "Fury" was a quite realistic movie with a real Tiger tank... (OK, don´t mention the outnumbered, outgunned and dirty GI´s in spring 1945) untill I saw the showdown battle at the crossroad.

Wonderful looking model, the weathering and stowage are excellent. I really like the face on the front. It took me by surprise in the film, it was a while before I realised it was a gas mask and not the mummified head of a dead German.

Agree with Chris, the first half of the film is very good. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if they got anything major wrong but it seemed to me to be a pretty fair representation of the day to day life of a WWII US tank crew.

But the final battle really stretches credulity. Five men and a broken tank hold off a whole SS Infantry battalion and thereby prevent the annihilation of the supply line for the whole Allied invasion of Germany.

It's nonsense but it's entertaining nonsense. I realise the current trend is to make films as exciting as possible but I can't help wondering if the films would be better if there was an attempt to make them just a little bit believable.

Very nice! Apart from all things said already, I also like the roping that attaches the stowage and the logs to the tank. This is very well done, and even in 1/35 many modellers forget to tighten their stowage to the hull.
