Prussian Dragoons 1806

Posted by FredG on 27 Feb 2019, 19:27

Continuing with my series of not very much liked sets :eh: 1806 Prussian Dragoons.

Luckily these are very well moulded figures and there's very little spare to clean off them. The main bits I've removed were from some of the horses between the front legs. The cleanliness of the cast is fortunate as the plastic is more like rubber, even MrsG commented on that when she inspected one of the horses. I don't hold a lot of conviction that the paint on the horses legs will not flake off at the slightest jar of the figure. Paint doesn't bend too readily in my experience and these legs bend very readily.

You are a machine! More than that I appreciate the attention you give to older not great sets, turning them into sets one can be proud of as a collector or gamer! Keep up the good work!

I look forward to seeing these painted up :yeah:

A watered-down coat of PVA on the legs after you finish may help the paint stay.

I am liking this set a great deal better, now that I am watching you knock it into shape.

I've thrown a bit of colour at the figures and I'm now at the depressing painting black bits part. There's a lot of black leather on the horses and of course it all has to be done fairly carefully.

The Dragoons themselves do start to look much better when their hats and boots are painted in. Hopefully the faces will fill in a bit when I get to them. The heads do look a little on the small side but in their defence I've seen people down town in the market who look not a lot dissimilar.

The horses sre coming on quite well. I've settled for a darker look to the horse which should enhance the pink and white of the shabraque.
There's something about the pose of the first set of horses that makes me think "Dobbn" as I paint them.

They should look reasonable as a group when finished. As it is I'll have to get back to painting black.
No colours any more I want them to turn black. (Help!)

Rubber is good to make moulds, but not figures. Many of the painted Hat figures I have by the hundreds, have rubber rot and readily fall to pieces whenever I present them for film and photo shoots.
Two more broke today, and for myself that is two days painted work lost, that sadly i now can not replace. However guys we all recognise this defective material as do the Company sited above that still churns them out willy-nilly. :( BB

The horses have their paint on. Just the green bits to do then the washes :-D

The pink doesn't show up too well in the photo, it's bleaching out a bit under the lighting..

It`s amazing that those rather large hats seem slightly smaller when painted. Yes I realise they`ve not shrunk as if a snail poked in the eye but they do look good in the photograph FredG. Bravo! BB

The fronts look good too.

Seeing them grouped together I think they are a nicely animated bunch and they are a very impressive sight charging towards me. That effect is only improving as you paint them.

Looking good so far Fred!

Hi everyone,
The best solution I apply for my figures painting is to cover them with water down layer of sticky PVA from Woodland scenic and then I spray my white, grey ,or black primer.
So far it has been the best I found even on Zvezda type of plastic.
I hope this helps.

Thank you gentlemen, at present I'm at our second home and I don't paint figures here. So far this week it's been a few walls.

Dragoon production will continue next week.

Finishing off now. Just the basing to sort.

Three of the swords had extra bobbles on the blade tip. I was loathe to go in with a knife due to the soft plastic but the nail clippers sorted them perfectly. ;-)

No guessing which set is next. I've already posted it :-D
