Gallo-Roman Temple

Posted by sberry on 23 Feb 2019, 19:13

I was immediately fascinated when the announcement of this temple by Fredericus Rex was made last year.
So I got one once it was available, and here are some WIP pictures of this project:

Thank you guys!

The next step will be the accessories, like the altar, the graves alongside the road etc. Painting of this stuff is almost complete, will be the next WIP pics.
And then the *only* thing that remains to be done is painting the figures themselves ...

Meanwhile I’ve painted all the accessories, essentially all the stuff that is no figure. I have begun to place everything on the base, and to add the terrain texture. The figures themselves are still unpainted, that will be the next step:

And I have made a first experiment with the snow that will be applied as the final layer when everything else is finished. On the left some cheap stuff from an unknown Dutch company is shown, I think it is intended for making Christmas nativity scenes. The right sample is Noch 08750 Powdery Snow for model railways. I’m not sure yet, but probably I will use both products in different areas of the diorama.

I really like this. Great model, very authentic looking Roman painting of the temple, and the lanscaping and accessories are fabulous!

Not my period but this is in a different league.

Super stuff and the grave yard is brilliant.

Best wishes,

Chris

Gentlemen, thank you very much for the kind words!

I especially like the "cool" in this statement: Personally, I’m quite fed up with winter and looking forward to the warmer days of spring. But as a diorama builder, I nevertheless hope that I will get the chilly winter atmosphere right …

Look really good. l like the chariot and the small weathering.
All the DIFFERENT grave stones.
A winter diorama get the advantage that the snow cover the unsatisfactorily edges.
And it is nice that you test first, decide and finally do the right thing.

I started this project during the last winter, and now, when the next winter season begins, there is a realistic chance that I might get it finished soon. Wow! There is still some vegetation to be added … and, of course, the snow. This will be the final step and I think there is a real danger that this might ruin the whole scene, given the fact that I never before made a diorama with artificial snow. Well, there is only one method to find out – I will have to pour that stuff over the whole scene. However, at least I made some quick (and not very good) WIP pictures to show how the thing looked before the blizzard came:
