Some ACW-wip

Posted by Susofrick on 11 Feb 2019, 10:34

Haven't posted in a while. Haven't painted in while either. Right now I'm working on some ACW-figures. Strelets and Speira. Both paint up very nicely and the Speira figures are very nice! The painting-desk is messier than ever because our puppy has been there. All the figures survived and the room is now locked! I hope these will be finished sometime next year. Will probably add something from IMEX for some atmosphere.

These figures will go with my ruined barn:

The partly painted ones will also go with the barn, the rest will probably have something to do with some character named Westmore Bolden and an old Swedish children's book (not the Asterix figures though :-D ):

Happy painting everybody!

A few figures finished next year?

That is far too long.

It can take a little longer! My dog just ate the bass-drummer from Speira! Well, some of them are almost finished now, but since I have to buy more stuff it will take a little longer before I can show some scenes. Maybe I just skip that drummer. Thanks! :-D

Worked some more on these fellows. And, yes, there is a hole in the trumpet! A small one. :-D

The two commanders. They have a little different style commanding their soldiers. Can be because one is commanding the attackers, the other is being attacked. Still WIP.

But both of them look very chilled!
Probably the feel so relaxed because they have just finished all their diverse diorama projects that had been stuck in various stages of progress for years, something that I will perhaps never achieve...

They look lazy! :-D

I miss a third figure here. One with a cup of coffee. And that brown figure says: "give it to me", so the bleu one points his gun saying: "don't you dare, and give that cup to me". Imagination on the run with an old man like me. Isn't it Gunnar?

Many indians and ladies for ACW? What do you plan with these well painted figures?

I didn't have coffe for these guys, they were already quite hot after their diorama-battle.

Indians???? They're in Montana right now! I think!

Ah. I see some Egyptians from Asterix! That was before the puppy-attack. Now they are locked up in the hobby-room!

Well, I was going to say how nice Your Civil War commanders are, but they've just been totally eclipsed by the woman carrying half a dozen tankards! I do like to see a figure displaying real practical skills.

Terrific figure and very nicely painted. :yeah:

Very nice indeed.

The question of building scale was highlighted by Mr Cryns in my Ligny project.

Personally, when constructing buildings I think that as long as the doors etc are correct for the troops height then the ‘ look’ of the thing is more important than true scale.

Wolfgang Meyer and his team are experts in building construction with truly breath taking structures in 20 mm.

For me the best solution is perhaps to swap and chop.

Dioramas true scale and war games a compromise scale unless you have a drill hall to battle in.

Best wishes,

Chris

That depends on how big the building was before it got ruined I suppose. If it was a big, solid, old church..
Maybe it looks more European than North American but I don't think I would have noticed a problem with the building if you hadn't mentioned it.

I do think Your Confederates look right at home firing over the perimeter stone walls though.

The remains of your rendered up barn is OK Gunnar. Barns and all kinds of buildings come in all sizes.

Placing tree`s and bushes near to the width end of your AIRFIX Building will make it appear a much wider house when using the camera to fool the eye with that angled shot you have already employed.

The average off the peg kits are not in true scale anyway. :coffee: One uses what one likes to obtain or indeed having lots more fun, make the stuff yourself.

As for your figures Gunnar, they sure do look very colourful and dead keen for a scrap. BB
