French and Indian War first attempts

Posted by bilsonius on 18 Nov 2018, 22:54

I'm afraid I recently came across an online tv film review which referred to a movie as being set during the "French and Native American War"...! :eh: :(

So unfortunately progress is very slow (even by my slow standards!).

But I have now finished some grenadier casualties. These aren't the best by any standards, but they'll do as the poor casualties for the 44th grenadier company. I know many of them will not lie flat etc so I will use the terrain/scenery to mask any that don't look natural.

The 44th and 48th grenadier companies at the very front of the vanguard took a real beating from the French and Natives, with over 75% casualties. So I may need to do a few more at a later date to show just how badly they suffered at the beginning of the ambush.

After very slow progress here is my next batch of completed figures. Apologies for the picture quality-my phone camera really isn't that great and I have shaky hands!

These are Compagnies Franches De La Marines. They are a combination of Revell SYW Austrians and Revell AWI Militia. The last three photos show comparisons between figures I did 12-18 months ago and now. Hopefully you can see that I've made some progress thanks to the comments and tips left by you all. Feedback (good and bad) is always helpful!!!

Impressive volume of figures, and I see that your painting style is evolving in a positive direction. Keep us posted.

I agree and I think the rest is mainly practice. So keep on painting and then posting! I am not hte best painter here, of course. But I make the experiance over the years. Sometimes I try better brushes and I painted different figures with more or less details in sculps and cloth.

I love the bearded guy in the buckskins, he looks great.

Nice shading on the white uniforms (not an easy thing I think), it gives your French troops a very good campaign look. And they're going to look terrific en masse.

Excellent progress indeed.

Your casualties are very nice. Do not forget you can chop and swap, tops and bottoms, arms, legs etc to get better poses.

May I suggest you ditch the gloss paint?

Natural fibres are Matt.

Keep up the good work.

Best wishes,

Chris

A few more grenadiers for the vanguard. Rank and file are Revell SYW Prussians and officers are Hat SYW Prussians and Imex AWI.

Here are my last batch of grenadiers ready for the diorama. These are a combination of Hat, Zvezda, Accurate and Italeri. I've painted around 80 of these so I've now become a little bored of painting 18th century uniforms so have just started a new period to give myself a break before creating my diorama involving these grenadiers.

Thanks for looking!
