Austrian Cuirassiers

Posted by FredG on 27 Mar 2018, 19:26

I've finally exhausted my Newline Designs Austrians so it's the turn of Hat to supply the Cuirassiers.
( I had the boxes in the stash already)

This group will represent three regiments so then I will have all the facing colours of the Austrian regiments, the buttons then being the only distinctions. I already have a set in progress with red facings.

It may take a little longer to complete these with the higher number.

Two of the horses were deformed on the sprue so I've added a couple of Italeri ones. The fore and rear legs of the rest had those straight bits of thick flash between them so I've recarved the lot.

Primed and ready to go.

I've not taken the Cuirassiers off the sprues yet, I'm saving that as a treat as I'll be impaling twenty-four of them at one go. Oh joy! :P

The previously started figures were getting in the way so I prepared four bases. I've now based the first regiment and they're in the flock drying out.

Image

With all four bases going to need grassing in a fairly short time I've made a couple of tufts of differing lengths, colours and sizes. These are also drying out at present.

Now, back to painting.

Onwards! :-D

Looking good! You are building quite a big Austrian Army.

Given the Hat plastic is very bending, what type (brand) of primer are you using on them, and do you experience any flaking/chipping?

The plastic on these isn't any more bendy than on other brands. I use Wilko's own brand primer and yes I get flakes on any bit I happen to bend, horses legs can cause problems when setting them on the bottle tops. We need some bendy paint.

The horses are done.

Now for the Cuirassiers. :P
I get to impale 24 of them tomorrow

There are eight awaiting grassing, so just in case you're wondering where the other four went.
They turned out to be KGL light dragoons

That's the Revell zombie BB. He appears all over the house in the strangest places. He loves to run (very slowly and stiffly) with the horses. :coffee:

Impaled and primed with mould lines removed as much as I'm prepared to do on these.

As I was painting up the 24 Cuirassiers it became apparent to me that the previous 8 were just not painted well enough so I'm now painting all 32. It tends to slow things down a bit.

There's no hurry anyway. I'm just taking my time between these and repotting my collection of carnivorous plants.

En avant!

Bring on the empty horses!

Image

I've been flocking the bases so next it's gardening :P

Then these fellows are asking me to get them down from here. (pretty please!)

Image

Not the best of figures but I find them acceptable when finished.

Now to deal with the sod.
