rhine daughters

Posted by Taipeh on 21 Mar 2018, 18:25

This time our new Project is not in the Military area. We try to Show the German Nibelung Say in several different Displays.
In Germany a wellknown say , in the rest of the world more by the operas by Richard Wagner. We will start with the Moment Siegfried forges his sword Balmung. Than Siegfried fight again the Dragon and later bath in the blood of the Dragon.
During the hunt Hagen kills Siegfried because of a quarrel between the Queens Brünhild and Krimhild.
The last Scene was that Hagen von Tronje sunk the treasure of the Nibelungen in the Rhine.
while he does that, he is watched by the rhine daughters:

They are stunning. I love Nibelungen/Völsungen-Saga since childhood. But what version do you follow? The nordic saga, The Nibelungenlied oder Richard Wagners Ring des Nibelungen? I would prefer the Nibelungenlied. Will the be a dragon too?

@ Paul - when you read my comment you see : may be later in 28mm too - thats the only answer I could give in the Moment.

Planning First part of the Nibelungen Say
1. Siegfried make his sword Malmong in a blacksmith
2. Siegfried fight against the Dragon
3. Siegfried bath in the blood of the Dragon
4. Hagen kill Siegfried at a hunting
5. Hagen throw the Treasury into the Rhine

In the Moment we think about some additional like:
A. the Move of Siegfried + Albarich and hgis companions to Worms
B. a Scene at the court of Worms

@ Roland - I want to Combine this from the Nibelungenlied with the downfall of the Burgunsdians 436 n.Chr. by Hunnic auxiliary troops and Roman troops. Also the Nibelungen will get clothing and armor of late Germanic , and not early Medieval as often shown by Richard Wagner. But feel free to discuss this with me.

In 2 days the boat, Hagen, the Treasury and the rowing guy will be ready.

For the second part of the say we are free. There will be Hunnic and Burgundians, but which Scene , we do not know in the Moment. May also belong to the request of part 1.

Ciao Michael

Great figures, and not just Rhine Maidens.

Mermaids in the rest of the world, perhaps Selkies in Scotland (maybe without the scales) and, perhaps even Odysseus's Sirens in Ancient Greece.

Lots of scope for these.

This ist a very fine idea! Late "Dark Ages"/Völkerwanderung wil be the right way. I am looking forward! Love the idea! (Wagner hasn´t given any idea about the period; its strong mythological. It´s a widepsread misunderstood to place it in earl medieval time, my fifty cent opinion).

I remember when our music teacher told us about legend of Nibelung. I remember the movie, wasn't supposed that blood of dragon made Siegfried skin unable to cut with sword or stab with spear. At least that was in the movie. I also remebre something about Tristan and Isolde.
Many mythologies and folklores have dragon even Christianty. For example in Balkan in epic poetry a hero is a man which one parent was a dragon.
