Nap 2nd Italian Light Infantry

Posted by gbvarese on 23 Jan 2018, 15:44

Dear All,

I'm an enthusiast of the 1813 campaign as many nations were involved, with many different uniforms worn by troops. The Italic kingdom army participated in several battles and in particular Division Fontanelli to which the 2nd light infantry belonged. The ordinary uniform included tight trousers and gaiters, but after 1812, green loose trousers, with piping in the regiment's colour, or grey or brown were delivered to te troop.

This a first representaive of the 2nd Rgt that I painted. As you can see I had to shorten the tails. The chasseurs had single shoulder belts, shoulder straps instead of epaulettes worn with the previous uniforms.

Dear Kesko and Susofrik,

I'm currently committed with finishing two Russian battalions to complete a brigade. I must be careful not to disperse my energy in too many new ideas. I have in any case the desire to build up the entire Fontanelli's division in order to be able to fight the battle of Wartenburg. I'll do my best.

Thanks Giovanni.

Hey there!
Sure it's grey greatcoats and not blue-gray ones? Do you have a source for the yellow vest for 1812 and later? I only found vests in regimental colours for the years before 1809.

Dear Zed1,

I've taken my info about the italian light uinfantry uniforms from "the Army of the Kingdom of Italy 1805 1814 " of W.J.Rawkins. On page 70 he says: " In 1811 the waistcoats for all regiments officially became dark green but there is evidence to support the 1° Reggimento retaining their distinctive lemon yellow garments for parade dress into 1813. The dark green waistcoats certainly appear to have been worn during the Russian campaign of 1812 and it is possible that the reformed 1° Reggimento in 1813 used the coloured gilets which had been put into storage in 1811. The new dress regulations of 1811 meant that many regiments throughout the army that needed to be re-equipped from scratch in 1813 in fact had considerable stores of older garments which could be quickly adapted, the probable reason for many of the minor oddities of the 1813-1814 era." With regard to greatcoats at page 71 is stated that: "Greatcoats were of the same
patterns as worn by the line infantry in 1805 and 1811; pepper-grey in 1805 and pewter grey from 1811. There is some evidence that a dark green greatcoat was issued in limited numbers to the 1°Reggimento
around 1808 but all other coats are shown as various shades of grey".
I hope to have staisfied your request.
Giovanni.
