Alexander the Great, Hydaspes

Posted by Traveller1865 on 10 Aug 2017, 18:07

Gonna post my Alexander the Great projects here, gonna focus on Hydaspes, not much done yet, but about 150 figures of the sygmanta from the HäT set primed and ready for paint. I'm waiting for some sets to arrive, and I'll see if it will be a complete 256 man sygmanta.

Gonna work on the Greek Mercenary Hoplites next. For the Indian side I have Lucky Toy's King Porus Army set but need to get more figures.

Some shots of the Phalangites before black spray! Sarissas are made of broom sticks, though I'm not sure all were in the same length.

I follow your project.
Hope to see your first painted figs soon.
And this is for your inspiration.

I have that set half painted for years, never finished. Hopefully I'll see yours finished, looking forward to that.

Have Zvezda's Phalanx, but still in the box. Some of my figures feel better that way. :-) You did very nice with your ACW-work so this will be very nice to follow!

I have the Zvezdas too, better detail but assembling the figures and sarissas was true terror, the HaT set is a real challenge too, but more figures in each box and more angles of the sarissas.

Interesting project! Yes they look really like anglers but I think this impression will changed quite soon in the process.
Did you buy their lances or it´s your own production?

The lances are all broom sticks about 7.5-8 cm, they have to be glued on the figures. The spear tip is made using a plier and then cutting.

A correction in my original post, the 256 unit within the Phalanx is called syntagma and nothing else.

Hoplites ready for priming, also from HäT, again, not as good as Zvezda's but shields work with shield transfers which is an advantage.

Would really like to see some close-ups... All I can say now is that they look very nice from afar...

Yes! Got the HaT set with the three sprues instead of the newer issue which has only two, meaning a bonus elephant and crew! These will of course represent some of the allegedly hundreds of war elephants King Porus used in the battle though I will mostly rely on the Zvezda sets, just because they are better.

Received the HäT Indian infantry and chariots today. There's also a chariot in the Lucky Toys Porus King Army set so four chariots in total.

Some cheap palm trees from Ebay, can't have a jungle without them.

Figures from Newline Designs primed black, Probably fits the HäT figures best and adds som action poses.
Image

Some of the infantry from the Lucky Toys set, probably the best Indian set, but only a handful of infantry poses...

Some of the Indian forces, mainly HäT and Newline Designs, elephants are Zvezda and Hät, sadly the quality of the HäT products isn't the best when compared to Zvezda, the elephant crew especially is lacking.
