Not bad at all for first time. I will also give additional credit as follows;

Extra credit for going after armored knights for the first attempt. Trying to make armor look correct is tricky. At least in my opinion. I can see that it looks as if you washed the figure to bring out detail which certainly helps break up the silver look.

If I were to give any advice it would be to make use of different colors to represent the belts/straps/scabbard etc. It looks as if everything is silver, red and brass.

No matter what I would finish this guy and put him on your shelf. Then continue to paint and in on year go back and look at the progress you have made! I bet you will be very surprised!!!!!

Welcome darkgorgoth,
This is a very bold painting adventure indeed. You have chosen some good figures to paint too.
First ever figure? Is looking good.
It can get a bit frustrating at times painting small figures,so welcome to the club. :-D

A tip via You Tube, was to add black to silver, use it as a base coat on body armour, then highlight certain areas with the neat silver for contrast. Like in a dry brush method.
I look forward to seeing your progress. BB

Welcome to the forum.
The best way for inspiration is a pic.
A picture says more than a hundred words.
Here are some of my english knights.

This looks pretty good for the first work! I think you should add another layer of color on the red clothing. When doing this, you can try to paint over some painting "mistakes" (for example the color of the belt that floated on the knight´s clothes). This brings you two advantages: The primer color does not shine through the red anymore and your paintjob will look more neat. When you feel more comfortable with the brush, it is time for highlighting...
One more tip for the mail-armor: Paint the mail-covered parts black and drybrush them with metal-color.

darkgorgoth--

Please don't be sad that your knight did not look exactly how you had planned it before you started painting. It is really pretty good, and for a first try, quite respectable. I agree with others that if you stick to it, and listen to the experienced painters of this forum, your skills will improve by leaps and bounds!

This is some great progress! The paintjob looks very neat and you have started to use highlights, which is fine! For the base you could add a darker wash to the stones and maybe drybrush them with a lighter grey after the wash is dry.
For the paint I recommend a pallette, where you can wipe off the amount of color that is too much on your brush. Something that might be useful are the videos of warhammer TV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34L2g_b3oY0
