Roman Testudo dio Varus battle

The testudo is ready. But had a lot to complement. The testudo is from the 3D printer (by holden) - however, only the shields and legs are all in position as one part. The detailing of the shields is also not entirely satisfactory.

Those pictures when you see whole diorama are awesome. I don't care about testudo imperfections, this will be WOW when finished.

Would the pilum be retained in a testudo? Not much chance to throw it.

I like the one who is looking outside. Like a tank commander from his cupola.

Yes, the 3D printing quality is not top notch. But that the shield are not homogenous line up on top make it more life like.
Also for painting. You have done what was possible. But if there is no detailing, painting ability is limited.

All in all it is nice to see these " turtle" paint and fixed in a Dio.
Look promising, move on!

Thanks for showing and reviewing that testudo.
The limited detail you tell us about encourages me to continue some sculpting in the old way style.

But above all I like to compliment you with the diorama: I love the way you made that swamp using grass tufts but also plants with (paper?) leafs. Very lively. I think our Roman specialist Mr. Berry will be satisfied concerning this Kalkriese scenery.

I am curious what's coming next in this dio:
Also I have some questions about the defensive wall. But I am not sure if you appreciate some input and feedback on this subject.

Praga,I like that formation painted up,and sure it is a solid thing,but looks great. Well done on all your work thus far on this Diorama.

That is a good question FredG, and I suppose sections of this defensive, but attack formation could quickly bend on one knee at word of command and archers and javilins could be fired and thrown in seconds.
VIKINGS interlocking shield wall formation on the TV Show,is well worth the viewing,and of course ROME,also on TV,as they often depict this ancient defensive shield attacking shuffle. BB
