Absolutely splendid brushwork as usual lirui. Am a big admirer of your work, this thread in particular, and never tire of seeing your new additions. The period, the minis themselves, your colours and photography are all breathtaking.
I love these figures with or without bowstrings and understand your consternation/dilemma as to whether the extra work is worthwhile or not. I have deliberated long and hard over this with regard to adding horse reins to my cavalry figures. My conclusion up to now is in agreement with yours.
I do recognise that with correctly fitted horse reins into a rider’s hands a whole new dimension of reality is added to a cavalryman. However, the considerable amount of work required to do the reins has, at least up to now, been too daunting/time consuming for me to tackle. And the same applies to my archers, (which are admittedly few and far between). But I do think that to scale bowstrings would surely look magnificent. Nevertheless, if they are too thick, in my honest opinion, they might transform the figure into a caricature, which personally is not to my liking. And the prospect of adding bowstrings and horse reins to the same horse archer would be enough to drive any man crazy, (or should that be ‘crazier than we are already’)!
