What was your first set of 1/72 figures?

I thought 'greenhorn' was an American term describing new immigrants, like Europeans, Asians and the like, in the old Wild West time. Lucky Luke has a book about it.
What's a greyhorn, if I may ask?

You are right, Ruben. They were also called Tenderfoot. (The Swedish version of that Lucky Luke album is called Ömfotingen (=Tenderfoot). Greyhorns are maybe those of us whose hair/horns are slowly/rapidly turning to grey?

The right word is grey-haired. But we aren't that old! I've got hair with a strong will, it's not grey and it doesn't fall out!

My first set would have had to have been Airfix, most likely either the 8th Army or the Africa Korps set. This was back in the late 70's or early 80's. I have no idea what would have happened to them, but we moved around a lot as a kid so I image they were thrown out at some point.

Since I started again in 2001, the first set I bought were Italeri Roman's, which are to this day still in a largely unpainted state.

Another slang term is blue hair. My first was an Airfix box.

I am not really sure. Either it was Waterloo-British Artillery from Airfix or German Afrika Korps from Esci. The Year was about 1985.

In this time our neighbour had built his house. So there was an excellent battlefield next to our house. Some brave plasticsoldiers (mostly 1/32) never returned from that field. They still lie under our neighbours basement. May they rest in pieces....

In some cold and silent winter nights you can still hear their screams.....muah haha....

My first set was Airfix British Paratroops, around 1973. They were sold by MPC as part of a model kit called 'Battle of the Bulge!' containing a half-track model and a vacu-form base. I was too young to question whether British Paratroops could pass as American Airborne, but the best part was the pictures of the other kits on the side of the box, which I learned later on were all Airfix first-edition soldiers. Those lead me to 'D-Day!' (Germans) 'Gaudalcanal!" (Japanese) and 'Pearl Harbor!' (USA). Ironically the latter contained the British Combat Group as US GIs, so that made things even more confusing later on. The only painting I did was to bloody up the casualty figures.

Then came the discovery of true Airfix in the blue and/or white boxes...at $0.85 each!
