Back to enamel

Posted by Ochoin on 10 Jul 2025, 04:55

I converted to acrylics many years ago but I need to add to a very old unit, originally painted in that toxic stuff, enamel paint.
And there's a blue that acrylic doesn't have & I can't quite mix. So, back to enamel.

I'd forgotten the richness of the colours ... and the stench of the paint. Cleaning the brush, always a chore, is worse. And it's so shiny!
So no permanent return to the Old Days.

I can't imagen that you can't find that blue paint in acrylic paint. So many brands wityh so many blue colors. What blue were you looking for?

Tamiya X-4 Blue.

I tried all the paint comparison charts - nothing quite the same. ditto, me mixing it. I could get close.

Remember, half the unit (painted way back then) was in this colour & the additional figures I'm painting needed to look identical.

I had 6 figures, painted years ago. I've just added 6 to create a full strength unit of Polish Lancers (esci)

I think they match well.

And no more enamel paint!

I am also happy that I converted to acrylics 20 years ago.
