Santi.

Don't you have that in Spain?

Unfortunately not, as far as I know, Peter. I only know of two antique toy fairs held weekly in Madrid, but you can't find model soldiers there, only Playmobil, Lego, dolls, die-cast cars, action figures and little else. :(

It's been a long time since I've bought any new sets and had convinced myself I'd limit myself to cavalry or fantasy, but here we are.
Who resist Romans?

Who, indeed? You must have a project in mind for these figures. Do tell.

I've been picking up random sets of Roman's somewhat irregularly for quite some time now. There was no initial plan, but one has taken shape over the years that I've been pursuing very slowly.
Not sure if you're familiar with the Greyhawk fantasy setting, but one of the major players is a declining empire referred to as the Great Kingdom. It actually predates role-playing and was originally used with Chainmail tabletop rules.
The descriptions are pretty clearly referencing the Roman Empire as it declines. Being somewhat historically based, it is split into four areas that, to me, represent different eras of the Roman and Holy Roman empire.
These figures have been on the someday purchase list for a while and I finally broke down and bought a box.
All just an excuse to buy more Romans.

I think you’ve made a good purchase, elegantmess. I have those Roman sailors and I really like them, especially the rowers, despite the roughness of the sculpting.

As for me, I’m waiting for Airfix to re-release their old Romans and Britons. Although the quality isn’t top-notch, I’m looking forward to getting them to remind me of when they were the star figures in my childhood toy soldier collection.

Yes, Peter, the Airfix website says they’ll be released this summer. I’ve seen elsewhere that they’re due out in June – it won’t be long now.

I am looking forward to the release date. Cool sets and I have them mind in box only. So now I can build the castles when I got the new edition.
