My new purchases, just arrived home !
Two wars not much covered in hour hobby:
- the 3rd Italian Indipendence War (1866, Italian Guides cavarly and Austrian infantry)
- the 2nd Schleswig-Holstein war (1864, Danish Infantry building threnches)
All from Massimo's 42nd Black Watch
The problem is when I will work on them .... if I see my accumulated boxes and my rate of painting, not before 4-5 years

I visited Rotterdam and Amsterdam last week-both lovely cities! Whilst in Rotterdam I found a very nice model shop who stocked a few 1/72 kits. Treated myself to Zvezda GNW Russian artillery and infantry boxes-very reasonably priced as well! No idea when I'll ever get around to painting them though...oh well!

Yes, I agree with your sentiments on these Dutch cities, always fascinating and welcoming places to visit.
Looking forward to seeing what you create with these fine Zvezda sets, Rich. For my money, the Zvezda artillery sets in particular will always be amongst my favourites so far as 1/72 figure sets go.

I have made myself an early Christmas present and ordered some wonderful items from Crynsminiaturen:
These canoes are based on ancient shipwrecks found at Zwammerdam in the Netherlands.
The site where they were found was a Roman camp on the Rhine frontier, and this is exactly the theme for the (future) diorama that I have in mind with these models.
For size comparison I have included the party-guest from the old Atlantic set. Disclaimer: I don’t encourage the drinking of alcohol on board of a ship in any way, this was just one of the first suitable figures I found when taking these pictures!

I also ordered four different sets of bricks:
They are intended as cargo for the ship models by Crynsminiaturen. Producing bricks and transporting them to the various garrisons was a big thing for the Roman army on the Rhine, so I could use them in my diorama. However, these versatile sets can be used elsewhere, too, and I had started already another diorama with a little construction site. So I was really happy when they became available.

But the star of the show is the large barge, based on the Zwammerdam 6 shipwreck. Again, the old Atlantic guy for size comparison.
As you can see, the model comes with quite a number of separate parts. But I think all these parts are more or less necessary because of the casting process. This seems a general trend among resin models, by Crynsminiaturen and others, too: They apparently break down their models only into the number of individual parts that are inevitable for technical reasons. By contrast, with plastic models I often feel that the set has been made unnecessarily complicated, resulting in a myriad of fiddly parts that are sometimes really awkward to handle. I understand that this is probably to maximize the building fun of the modeler. But to be honest, my fun comes from being able to assemble my diorama in the end, and not from having as many obstacles as possible on the way…

Congratulations on that early and wonderful Christmas present, sberry. The ones you give yourself are the best gifts and, if they are wonders like Mr. Cryns', even better, hahaha.

I can only praise your good taste in acquiring this Pegasus set, Peter. Did you do it more for the Franciscan monks or for the Native Americans? And if it was for the former, do you plan to paint them as they are or turn them into other religious figures, as I'm doing in my Swiss Guard, Pope and Cardinals diorama?

Adding to my Prussian project by buying Hat's Prussian Landwehr sets and A Call To Arms French infantry. And some fantasy figures for another project. Dark Alliance Half-orcs set 1 (Pikemen) (2 boxes) and the Warg Half Orcs.

This morning I found in one of the few model shops left in Madrid this Revell set, which I never got, discontinued a long time ago and that can be found on the internet at high prices. I was lucky, because I could get it for only 10.90 €.

I only buy Asterix figures
But on fathersday I got this set from Benno:
okey we don't have the same look, but the gift was really fantastic.

No doubt you will paint yours long before I paint mine, Peter.
Those cuirassiers must look fantastic when finished, although I would never dare with them. The very idea of having to assemble them one by one puts me off. I prefer my conversions a thousand times over. Even if they take me the same amount of time, I find them much more satisfying.

Remco, perhaps you could enter the Guinness Book of Records as the person with the largest collection of Asterix figures in the world.
That set looks great, especially considering it's in 1/72nd scale. Even more so when it's a gift from a good friend.
