Best red paint

I would like to tap in to all your wonderful knowledge and wisdom and ask what reds you use for painting red coats? I know the shade of red did vary between periods, so there is not one right answer, but your thoughts would be appreciated! I've had Vallejo Model Colour Scarlett and Carmine Red, which are both very runny/liquidy and don't leave a thorough coating. Vermillion red always seems just a little too bright whilst Red seems very dark.

Some 9 years ago I bought Vallejo Starter Set containing 70908 Carmine Red and it was great.
When I've run out of it I bought single pot of 70908 CR in two occasions and they were different shades and different consistency And they were less opaque than first one.
Now I have Scalecolor Blood and Fire paint set with lots of reds but I didn't tried it out yet.
According to Youtube painting videos reds from Citadel (Games Workshop) don't look bad but are far more expensive.

The Red in reality did not vary much over the years, but with age, wear, and the sun the colour changed from the Red you still see today with the Guards outside Buckingham palace to almost a pink colour if old enough and it had seen enough sun. Humbrol used to do an authentic colour range, I have written to them asking them to do it again, but they got it right ,and no one else gets close. I bought every tin I could find years ago and still have a few left, after that I will try and mix my own, and that may be the answer for you,or look outside of the hobby at artists oil paints.

Humbrol Authenticolour was certainly a great paint range: a great shame that they no longer make these colours.

I could only recommend Vallejo Colours and also the Inks from that company. You can make them yourself but the Game Color Inks are top.

I use Vallejo Model Color line Flat Red. Covers decently on black too.

P3 Khador Red is the best red I’ve ever used. When I first started painting miniatures I tried paining with the old Citadel Blood Red and it was a mess, 5-6 coats just to get decent coverage. P3 will cover evenly in 1-2 coats. Great paint.

P3 Skorne Red is a deeper red that I use a lot as well. Also great.
