1/72 (viking) shields

Posted by kbakker on 08 May 2020, 20:24

Hello,
I am currently painting the 1/72 viking sets from Emhar and Zvezda and the shields are a nightmare.

Behind every shield that turned out fairly ok there are at least 4 times I had to start all over again.

I'm brushing acrylics ,(revell aqua and vallejo).

Are there any quicker, less frustrating ways to paint the shields?

Specifically what issues are you having, can you describe them further? There's some nice decals out there if painting becomes too much a chore. For repetitive patterns you can divide up the shield into appropriate number of sections lightly with pencil. Or you just need a smaller brush.

Thank you for the reply, I'll try and post some pictures.

Specially with the zvezda soft plastic ones the problems are multiple since the primer does not really stick. So a mistake is hard to correct because the rest of the paint job rubs off too then.

This is also a problem when I dilute the paint too much.

Ah, the old Zvezda plastic, so very oily and needs thorough washing before primer but you likely already did that. I don't have experience with the figures you are working on but I'm sure someone else has who can help you out. Sorry I can't be of more assistance, it does sound frustrating.
