Making buildings

Does anyone make buildings using foam to make the outside walls? I mean the polystyrene foam in foam core board or blue poystyrene.

So the question is do you treat the surface of the polystyrene to protect it whie you're painting it, or once the building is finished? I want to try this and was thinking I might painting epoxy on it to stop it getting dented, any thoughts?

styrene if it is good material to build and support paint and oils but first you have to prime a couple of layers.

Yeah gesso, is a good idea, and thinned down wall filler. However I am still inclined towards a coat of five minute epoxy as I have used that before on another project, thanks for the link though.

I think I might try the Martha Stewart texture spray to do some buildings that would double for both Napoleonic Spain and Renaissance Italy.

There are several types on the market, Games Workshop used to do one. As I remember the essential thing to do is keep the nozzle clean because unlike other spray paints the textured spray clogs the nozzle.

I suppose it depends on what type of building you are looking at making, an Adobe house, wooden framed one, a wooden one, modern 20th cent ?

I was thinking of using some of the techniques developed by Emmanuel Nouailliers - where you remove one of the paper skins and work the polystyrene beneath. Not sure what I'm going to do yet, probably just a couple of test shots, but they could end of as Normandy buildings or late Medieval/17th Century yet, see how it goes.
