A conversation about lotr stand in miniatures

Posted by Lord marcus on 30 Oct 2015, 05:29

Hello gentlemen,

As you may no doubt be aware, I started a 1/72nd collection themed on lord of the rings.

I already know of the dark alliance mini's for:

Uruk hai
Army of the dead

My question that is up for discussion is what would you use for various units of other factions?

Arab kits have been suggested for haradrim, Mongols make good units for rhun, but what would you use for

Rohan
Gondor
Easterlings
Elves of various kindreds
Dwarves
Gondorian fiefs
Arnor
Black numenoreans
Etc?

Well, there are a lot more options now than when I was into it 20 years ago, but I'll give it a try:

Rohan = Celtic/Gothic cavalry
Gondor = Late Imperial Romans (Italeri and Hat)
Easterlings = Mongols/Samurais
Elves of various kindreds = Think that Caesar made a set. Could be tough nut.
Dwarves = Impossible when I was trying this, but now there are Caesar and Dark Alliance
Hobbits = Don't know. Maybe bribe our sculpting friend Alex...

Good luck and happy hunting!

Could you convert Italeri Celts (both infantry & cavalry) for Elves? They're very tall, slender & stylish figures.

The trouble with all the celts is their beards (some would say their bards). Elves, as far as I know, don't have beards. Maybe some Greeks can be elves, many are cleanshaven.
