Napoleonic Heads

Posted by Little Ted on 06 Oct 2013, 20:49

I would like to know if there are any Napoleonic French heads available any where. I would like to replace the heads on some Hat Bicorned Heads with some shako clad heads. Does anyone know where I could get them.

Franznap has also put out a line of heads http://franznap.jigsy.com/SHOP#!/~/cate ... ort=normal, but they tend to be of the more exotic headgear rather than plain old shakos.

Which set are you converting? If it's the 1805 infantry in greatcoats, I would recommend using the heads from the useless Italeri 6002 set. The heads are a great match for the figures.

Thanks for the links. I will have to get some from both companies.

I totally agree with Rosbif, decapitating those useless Italeri & esci sets is all they are good for, I always give them a coat of PVA as well this will cover up the badge & chin scales & when painted will look like it has a shako cover on.

Yes its the 1805 set I want to make them later infantry. Is it still normal to PVA prime a plastic figure befor painting them? I have been doing this but have noticed a slight loss of detail. Could I spry prime them without a PVA prep? i want to use them for wargames so they will be handled a lot. Also What varnish is recommended on plastic figures to protect them well, I like a Matt finish. I have been painting metal figs for a long time and wondered is there is now a better way to paint plastic than i new about before.

Hi Little Ted, on plastic figures I only use PVA to cover up detail I don't want, make sure you wash all the figures in warm soapy water, then use a plastic primer & when dry you can paint directly to it, once finnished use a good quality gloss varnish to give as much protection as possible then if like me you don't like a gloss finnish give them a quick spray of anti shine varnish to get excellent super matt finnish. I have added the first of a set of tutorial videos to this which some of my youtube subscribers have asked me to do, it may be of some use to you.

Thank you very much! I was sure I was losing detail with the PVA now I will try without.

Check my last posting to see what I did with the HaT 1805 infantry in greatcoats viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14822#wrap

All heads are from Franznap except the grenadier sergeant and the middle figure, back row, which have Italeri heads.
