Commemoration of the battle of Montcornet ( France May 1940)

Posted by Chris on 24 May 2010, 11:52

One week ago, there was a commemoration at Montcornet in northern France, in memory of the counter-attack of the Colonel De Gaulle, commander of the 4th DCR.

Many friends of me went to this celebration, so I give you the link in order to see french materials ...

Here are just a few photos and the link !!

Great pictures and links there Chris. Thank you very much. You can see from the equipment there that it would not have taken too much more time for France to have moved down the mechanised army route. The makings were all there from the trucks to the half-tracks to the Jeep equivalent. You can only wonder "what if", had there been just a little more time.

Concerning the What if, a book have been released few weeks ago in France it's entitled " 1940, et si la France avait continué la Guerre ?" "1940, what if France had continued the war "
That's a serious study about what may have happened if France hadn't sign the armistice and kept fighting from her colonies...truly fascinating...

Looks like a very interesting book Chris. I love "what-if" history stuff. If only my French skills were good enough to properly read it, I'd order it tomorrow. :(
