Pictures Oldenburg

Posted by Benno on 18 Feb 2008, 01:08

Here is an impression of our weekend at the Modelbahn Total show in Oldenburg on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th February 2008. This time also with Kai Fuhrmann and my dad! My dad brought his new SHQ WW2 Americans with him to paint - it was the first time he painted since he was young and he did a pretty good job on them. It was very nice to talk with Kai. Normally we say a few words at DUZI when I'm browsing for hours through hundreds of Art Miniaturen bags at his stand (it's a miracle he never gets tired of me).

As you may notice on the pictures, I made a few posters using painted work from a few forum members. I'd like to thank them for sending me the pictures (and approving the posters!). Whitout them, the stand wouldn't be half as nice as it was now! ;-)

We all had a fantastic weekend, with a lot of time to paint figures that had to be painted for a while, and next year we'll be at Lingen again!

Enough talking.. here are the pictures!

WOW WOW WOW

That must have been lots of fun! All the setups are just incredible looking. That waterloo display was amazing. I especially liked the picture that showed your painted Prussian next to an unpainted one. So many times when trying to explain this hobby to new people they get easily confused about "painting" a toy soldier. But having the two side by side shows the artistry of our hobby.

I wish I could have been there. Heck I wish we had something like that that happened even close to me.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately I can't show you all the pictures I made 'cause that will cost me my monthly bandwidth. That's also why I've put so few pictures of the Waterloo diorama, as little has changed since Lingen.

The posters were a big succes, so they'll be hanging there the next time too! 8)

I've got a lot of questions on the hobby last year in Lingen on different stuff, so I put a box with sprue in the showcase, together with some metal figures from Art Miniaturen, some half painted figures (f.e. the face of the painting face tutorial) and unpainted ones next to the painted version. This gave people indeed a better view on what's the hobby is about. Luckily enough I had more space for presenting it all (just compare the BF part of the stand here with that of Lingen!).

I looked for travelling to Oldenburg. Paris to Oldenburg is 8 hours in car.
Is that show every year? I would be there!!!

And is there any others show not sor far from Paris in Nederlands, Belgium or in Deutschland, not far from the french frontier?

You are crazy if you want to travel 8 hours from Paris to Oldenburg. There wasn't that much at Oldenburg either with figures, just this stand. There were mainly small scale trains at that show.

If you really want to go somewhere, go to the DUZI in Wesel (mainly 1:72 and large scale figures) or CRISIS in Antwerp (mainly 6mm to 28mm figures, almost no 1:72 stuff). DUZI is in October and CRISIS in November. ;-)

Yeah, the DUZI is worth wile visiting. I have been there now for 6 or 7 times but everytime it's a great joy to be there. They show a big diorama (every year a different one) and there is a wargame (40K/warhammer) competition. And a lot to see and to buy. The DUZI normally is in October.

And most of us will be there! This year will be my fifth time already! I had to nag to my dad for weeks to go there in 2003, it was the first time I saw that many collectors, figures etc etc. Before that I was one of the two people in Almelo who did this. The only figures I saw untill that moment were the sets at my local hobby store, now I saw metal figures, like Art Miniaturen and a lot of old Revell sets. I bought two boxes of Revell SYW Austrian Dragoons and two boxes of SYW Prussian Infantry for 15 euros! (Oh happy day!) The DUZI is mostly in the weekend after my birthday, so I've got a lot of birthday money to spend! 8)

Chen, take a look at the pictures of DUZI I made, they'll give you a good impression of how the previous DUZI's were.
