FIGZ 2025 report

Posted by MABO on 06 Jun 2025, 21:02

It's FIGZ month again and members of our forum are meeting in Arnhem in the Netherlands, as they have done for so many years now.

Image

Fortunately, nobody had to spend the night on the doorstep, but if at all in a hotel. Villa Hartenstein in Oosterbeek is always worth a visit. The former headquarters of the British paratroopers during Operation Market Garden, for which it was a bridge too far. Mr Andrea and I went there at lunchtime and saw, among other things, John Frost's famous hunting horn.

After visiting the museum, we went (1 hour to late) to help the others to set up and prepare the hall.

Image

Image

Remco, for example, prepared his 760 Romans.

Image

At some point, everything was ready.

Image

We just shouldn't have used chewing gum for the posters... :)

Image

And then Sunday came...

Image

And the first visitors arrived.

Image

Image

Image

Benno got support from his daughter!

Image

The different traders get a warm welcome:

Miniatuurwereld
Jan Frankema
Hagen Minatures
CCG Winkel

Image

Some of the hard-boiled FIGZ veterans were back in the Bring and Show area:

Peter was busy painting.

Image

Image

And he also had a bust of Santi Fernandez with him, so that he was also somewhat present in Arnhem, even if in reality he was far away in Spain.

Image

Image

Andreas (Old Wolf) and Dirk (Das Dirch) could have come as well.

Image

Mickey presented concrete! ;-)

Image

Image

Collin showed Wargames in 28mm and also some AFVs

Image

And for the first time there was a historical display with original pieces from WWII.

Image

Söhnke showed typical uniforms of the 82nd Airborne Division as they were deployed in Nijmegen in September 1944. He also showed equipment and personal belongings of a GI.

Image

But there were also a few figures to see.

Image

Wargaming was available in different scales: 6mm, 20mm and 28mm. And in all possible historical eras, right up to fantasy.

Fot the first time Marco from Kiepencon was attending the FIGZ.

Kiepencon is a tabletop convention, that takes place every January in Münsterland.
I definitely plan to drop by.

Image

And in the afternoon, Martin then rang in the traditional prize-giving ceremony for the colouring competition, followed by the communal cake eating, supported as always by Peter the vlaai-man.

Image

Image

Sascha won two second prizes.

Image

Collin the first price single figure (sorry no photo, maybe someone can deliver?)

Image

And Andreas won the other first prize with his island.

Image

Image

Image

The vlaai, was one of the best every imho!

Image

Image

So it was a real great show, some kind of a family-meeting, and a point to chat and look. what others have done since last year. Looking forward to the next June and I am sure Remco has finished number 1000!

Thanks Jan, it was a great time together again.
It was FIGZ #15 already!
A shame I couldn't find someone to do a workshop, have to search harder.
Unfortunately the donations were low, so I was thinking of asking unused sets, who can be sold next time. Members can send them to me for sale on behalf of the FIGZ organization.
Just an idea I was thinking of.
Thanks all who could come this year, Peter for his vlaai and personal presents.
I really had fun, even if I didn't talk to everybody.
Thanks to the help with building up, but also with cleaning up at the end.

Now let's think of FIGZ 2026, June 7.

Once again, thank you so much for the extensive photo report of this year's Figz show, Jan. It's clear that everyone involved had a great time, both the direct collaborators and the public. It's a way for those of us who are hard-pressed to attend in person to be able to participate in the show. :-D

Although there are many interesting things to see, I can't help but greedily admire Peter's delicious vlaai cakes.

Best regards!

Santi.

Santi,

It was cool to see your work as well, I had the idea it was bigger, so I am glad to know what it looks like in real. Maybe next year more members can send a small project or figure for showing by one of us.

Thanks for my enjoy moment!

It was a great show again and it was fun meeting a lot of friends again. Thank you for organizing Remco and I know you like that kind of presents. Maybe one day I can see it build. ;-)

Thank you for the report Jan and you're giving me to much honour for the "vlaai"!

The cleaning team had a small after party!

And someone got ......... icecream! :P

Hello,
read with pleasure and excitement Jan's report. Nice to see you all again, the shop, the games and lots of good exhibits. And pancakes for the cleaning party... with icecream :-). I remember FIGZ with Benno's daughter not yet born.
So it is possible to participate from a distance with figures. That's a good idea for the case I cannot make it.
Also, I particularly like this year's special figure, a thinking man representing serenity and happiness. Quite a rarity these days. I like to have one (will send PM)
Many thanks to Jan and also Peter for pictures, and biggest thanks to Remco for making it happen.
Greetings to the team
Michael

Sorry, Remco, I'm afraid you're confusing me. You mean Santi Fernández, from Barcelona. I'm the 'other' Santi: Santi Pérez, from Madrid.

Wow, great report as usual! You make us feel as we were there. But no vlaai .. :( . And to clean up everything! Wow! I know how it is, having worked in a local society for many years. First fun fun fun organizing, then even more fun the event, and then (often late night) cleaning up. There has to be a good team for that and it looks like a terrific team! Great work and I look already forward to the next report!

Well, Remco and Jan, I can only take this double invitation as a challenge. We'll see how my problematic housing situation develops in the near future, and then I'll consider sending you a new figure or one of the ones I've already shown on the forum. :winky:
