I am sure you will do alright, just remember 'less is more' you can always add but subtraction is a pain when it comes to painting figures.

I have now painted virtually the entire set in four different combos, spring/summer pattern, winter pattern, autumn pattern, and kind of a Waffen-SS pattern. With the acrylic gesso and a very thinned-out coat of paint, several of them dried nicely. Some, however, came out looking very glossy, partly due to multiple coats, I suspect. Can anyone recommend a good product for a finish coat which will change glossy-looking enamel finishes to a flat, or matt, look? Thanks again for all the help.

Testors Dullcoat is good for taking the shine off figures. It's also a protectant so you'll suffer from fewer chips too.

Krylon's- Matt finish: is cheaper and works as well as the Testors dull cote but you get a bigger can and available at most home improvement/hardware stores. I will admit I like the Testors but I go through it so fast I needed a cheaper way that did the job, it leaves a dull matt finish when dried like the dull cote spray.

Thanks. At this point, I am probably not going to be air-brushing the finish on. Do those products work as brush on finishes?

no they both come in an aerosol spray can. the only brush on sealer I have used is Reaper's Master series 'brush-on sealer'. however it does not dry to a matt finish. I haven't found a brush-on product that dries as flat a matt finish as the two products described above. ( I tried because aerosol spray use was tricky to do without an area like a basement or shed to use )

Ah, cool. My local model shop guy said I could use a clear flat acrylic finish that was brush on, but they did not actually have any.

Humbrol has/had (not sure been a couple of years since I had some) a brush on flat matt varnish/sealer but I am pretty sure it wasn't acrylic based. It did a reasonable job at taking the shine off some of my older work.

I tried the Testors Dullcoate. It helped a little bit with the the glossiness, but more importantly, they allowed the guys to finally dry!
