Casting using clear resin

Posted by aq75 on 03 Nov 2020, 09:03

Hallo every one,
I am trying to cast miniatures, so that I watched YouTube videos, all of the videos recommend using (Smooth on) products , but since this brand isn’t available in my country , is okay to use clear resin to cast miniatures & paint on the clear resin?

Thanks

Dear aq75,

It should be okay to use clear resin.
But if your resin is transparent, it will be difficult to judge the end result of the casting.
It is hard to see details and to see missing parts or mistakes when the resin is like glass.
I recommend to mix a little brown or neutral colored paint IN your resin before you cast it.
That will make your casting easyer to see and judge.
There is special paint available for resin tinting. But you can use enamel paint as well.

Painting your resin cast figurines or model parts should be possible with acrylic paint. If it does not adhese enough to the resin, finish the acrylic paint with enamel matt varnish.

Good luck with it.
