Painting Zulus

Posted by Ochoin on 03 May 2013, 12:22

I've built up a decent sized force of HaT British Zulu War figures & feel the need to contribute to my groups' collection of Zulus.

I'll be using the HaT ones.
I'm thinking of painting their skin with Vallejo Beige Brown (a medium shade) & washing them in Citadel, Bedab Black ink.
Highlight?

Please feel free to comment.

Hey Donald, have a look at these ones: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11336&hilit=zulus

I've painted them with GW Dark flesh and GW Dabab Black wash. ;-)

Hope this helps :-D

Hi Donald,

I bought a box of Vallejo Zulu wars colours. They have an African dark skin with skin washing. This I used when I painted the HAT samples which I have anywhere on my blog. I liked the result

As we need about 700 for a show in August, I've gone "assembly line".

I block paint them, dip in tinted wood varnish, touch up 7 add some detail, matt spray.

The effects are every bit as good as lovingly painted individual figures.

Peter,

the key to the "dip" is to carefully wipe the figure with absorbent kitchen paper towels.

I will definitely post photos from the game in August (as usual).
My share of the 700 is about 120. My pals are doing the others. With about 200+ British it should look pretty good.
