Tamiya dark yellow highlight

So ive been messing around with my airbrush. Ive been using tamiyas dark yellow as the base coat,but when I mix it with white to add highlights it seems too faded or muted. Any suggestions much appreciated. I would like to stick with tamiya colors if possible but if theres another brand I could work with that. Should I mix it with buff or deck tan?

It seems you are painting a tank, yes? Get a cheap toy store tank and experiment with different combinations until you find one that you like. Mixing a sand color with the dark yellow could be the ticket to success.
